What should my MPH be in the 1/8th? Update 9-13-11 New 3.5 gear
Just as the title states? I have a 370, TC78 (I know really small), Speed Inc TU1 cam, stock 317's with Patriot dual xtremes, th400 RMVB and TB, MWC 9" with a 3.0 gear and a 28" tire. I am running a average of 101 MPH in the 1/8th on 10#'s and leaving the line on 3-4#s avereage. I think on 10#s I should be trapping atleast 106 in the 1/8th. I have had a best of 102.89MPH and the best 60' of 1.57 on 6#s.
I think I am running a 8 step plug but it has been so long I can't remember. I plan on switching them this week but am wondering what I should run?
What should my MPH be? It also hangs around 9.2-9.4 until I hit third gear then it hits 10.4 almost instantly. Why would the car feel held back when in 1st or 2nd gear?
Edit: also running a Alkycontrol kit with dual nozzles set at 4 on the controller and is a littlebit rich around 10.3 or so above 6-7lbs. set to come on at 4#s of boost.

What kind of front tire are you running at the track?
Also more load of the 1:1 gear in 3rd will also help build more boost could be why you only see mid 9's in 1st and 2nd and 10.4 in 3rd.
I'm guessing it's a little more humid down there along the coast compared to where I live...? That will hurt mph also, you also being a little bit rich towards the top of your gears can hurt trap mph also.
What are the specs on the cam you are running?
Has it had any weight reduction done? If not and its a vert I'm guessing it weighs more than you think it does. Suspension mods?

Definetly humid.

225/225 .581/.581 on a 113

For Everything weight reduction I have done I think it has all pretty much equaled out. I'll try to get it on the scales this week. I have Adj. PHR, LCA's with built in relocations on the rear (MWC)

I just think I should have some more MPH in it.
Best and only 1/4 was a 11.3@120 1.57 60' (1/8th was a 7.4@94) and it was laying over due to some issues.
Best 1/8th was a 7.02@102.89 with a 1.67 60' right off of the trailer with 20PSI in the MT ET streets.

At 10 psi I would have a tr6 in it. I would lean it out to 11.0-11.5 af. I would also put some more boost to it. Ever had the thing on a dyno?

I have a K&N 4" cone type filter on it and I have tried taking it off and same problem.
I have not measured back pressure yet (need to get a gauge).
My tuning laptop is off getting repaired right now so no logs. Although I got the base tune from Steve (Frost) and he was been helping me tune it as I was going (as this was my first FI tune) I will dare to say that I have a pretty good idea on what is going on now.
You would run alot better if it was tuned closer to 11.30 - 11.50, the reason you feel it noising over is from the afr. You should be able to run a little leaner in the first 2 gears and if your running a th400. What I did was tune from idle to 6000 rpms for first gear only. Then 6k and up was tuned for 3rd gear. Basically it makes first gear hit really hard second is only a little rich and 3rd is dead on.
The BR7ef are what I was looking at initially.

I drove around an entire summer on a set of TR8's, never changed them. This was in my 348 cid nitrous car.
Now the ol' Formula ran a little rich, so it would foul out plugs here and there. Maybe check your tune and and go over your parts, I don't think the heat range of the plugs is the issue.

I'm just checking while I am about to change the Plugs. I just put a 4" IC on and the racegate so I will see how those do and try leaning it out a bit.

The fueling is to rich. Run around 11.0-11.5 afr. Get that straightened out without the alkycontrol first then make adjustments to compensate for the alky.
3.50gear is a great gear with a turbo setup and 28in. tires and a TH400.
NGK TR7 non-projected tip plug for the power you are making. Also the turbo you are using is probably not in its sweet spot until around 13-15psi. At that point you will see more power per LB. of boost, and run faster. Make sure you have enough valve spring pressure as well. Not enough and you will float the valves.
