Default How much CFM will keep are cars cool?

I just picked up a PTK kit and mocked it up then took some measurements the car and realized that I will only have about 1-1.5 inches of wiggle room between the radiator and the Garrett GT76 .96 A/R S trim turbo If I stand the radiator up I dont think the stock radiator is going to work at all. That being said I am going to have to scrap the idea of re-using the factory fans even if I stand the radiator up. My question is how much CFM am I going to need to keep my car cool on the street? What combos have worked well?

I know griffin part # 25241-X is the preferred radiator used when standing it up. What about fans I am on a budget and dont want to spend extra cash buying fans that wont keep up. Thanks.

stock fans run about 4,000cfm from what I read on here.. if you can keep your stock rad and run two 12' Derale 16925 they seem to work out pretty well. spend the money now or pay the price later

Ac or no ac is the question. If your not running ac you can get away with a couple cheap 12 inch pullers.

I ran the ebay clone of the ptk kit and used the taurus e fan which is a huge single puller. It kept it about 190* in the southern summer heat with the griffith radiator stood up.

I got plenty of room on the passenger there will be none on the driver. I ordered the griffin from summit today. Think I will use the stock passenger side fan and maybe a 8" puller above the turbo. Guess I can just cut the pigtail of the harness and run the 8" fan off the installed wiring hopefully it will keep up.

I saw lots of good pics on another thread one of the posts caught my attention though. I plan to mount the griffin under the upper core but I am also going to make the upper core support removable. I bought the sheet metal today to fab the lower bracket and to create a bracket to mount the trimmed upper core support. Ill be posting pics of my progress. Should make it real easy to stab the motor and transmission together from the top with a engine hoist. Should be nice considering I work out of my garage and not in a shop with a lift. Just pulled the front bumper/ Intercooler/ bumper bar today.

Engine is already out crank is at the machine shop getting turned to +10 it tore up the mains and started losing oil pressure opened it up and realized the builder never bolted the pickup tube to the oil pump. ouch ended up setting me back about 500 for gaskets bearings and machine work.

I wouldnt use the gri-1-25241-x if I was you unless it was most def I wasnt going to be using a/c and also keeping my HP below around 600. I recommend 1-55241-x or 55241-xs

here is a link to my findings on griffen rads. see page 15 post #282...

As for fans, I would look into keeping your stockers for pullers. If you can go with derale! great fan and affordable. I would keep around 2000-3000 cfm on pullers and about 4000 for pushers

Are you just pulling air from under the bumper or going thru the grill also?

I read that forum and overlooked your post thanks for the heads up I just called summit and ordered the 55241-x. I would love to keep the stockers for pullers but according to my measurements the turbo is 19" from the driver motor mount length to end. I took a measurement from the motor mount location on the k member to radiator its just barely over 20" thats straight line to the stock radiator. its 21" to the core support plane so I cant fit a stock fan on the driver side of the radiator, because there isnt enough clearance with the radiator stood up or in stock location. I attached pics of my dilemma. Im thinking about splitting the fans running one of them on the passenger side and running a 8" or 10" aftermarket puller just above the turbo I dont think I will have the room for the 12" stocker on that side.

Much thanks on the radiator suggestion.

Both the front plate holder is cut out to allow air flow to the intercooler and the normal path from the bottom is still there.

BTW look at these pics of a PTK kit I just got finished helping on the build That is a tc76 hanging on there. We used 2 pshers at 2000cfm a piece. There is plenty of room in there for a 88mm turbo I bet. Plus the car never gets hot so far.
Good luck!
