Default Any 600+ hp guys running MAFs?

Got a 9.2 compression 383 with a TC78 at 10psi and the EFI connection 24X conversion. Currently running in speed density and making 600hp and 600ft/lbs spinning to 6000rpm . My dyno tuner thinks I'm at the limit of a MAF, but I don't know. It runs alright, but I think it'll run a lot better using a MAF.

You'll be fine without it.

Well, I have a 4" aluminum housing with the LS7 style sensor. Problem is my intake tubing is 3.5" so if I put the 4" maf sensor in there it'll have erratic readings. Also the iat sensor in my MAF is bad, so I just have the stock LT1 style IAT sensor for now.

I was making around 700rwhp+ with a MAF, but I was utilizing fueling from my methanol kit while in boost.

I wouldn't use a MAF on anything but a boosted Ford(ford seems to have boost and MAF's figured out) or a newer corvette or camaro(with the newer E-38 pcm).

If you have any issues with speed density you need to find a new tuner, it should drive great, get good gas mileage, and be fine without a maf!

then whats the benefit of switching to a 2/2.5/3 bar map sensor like everyone seems to do? Easier tuning?

...sorry for hijackish question.

The 99 LS1 in a 69 Camaro I worked on last year has a LS7 slot MAF in a 4" tube. If you play around in the code you can get it to read up to about 1000hp.

You will max a stock ls1 MAF in the 600whp area.....I know because I can go log my car and I max airflow at ~4500rpm's. Anything above this value must be fudged with PE or IFR tables or by some other means.
