lq4 s10 + twin 70's
#1
as many of you may know, i swapped a 5.3 in my 96 s10 with a rear mounted t76. took her up to 18lbs and she popped a head gasket and i also heard some clunking. tore it apart and the entire rotating assembly was in tact. found a good deal on an lq4 and decided to part everything out and do twin 70mm front mounted turbos. the rear mount was cool and different, but i was really itching for some twins in the bay. here are some pics of the old setup.
and some videos of only making 5lbs due to boost leaks
it had tranny issues of automatically shifting from 1-2 because i need a full manual valve body and the converter was a cheap piece of junk so the engine needed to be pulled anyway.
heres whats going on with the new build.
2000 lq4 stock bottom end
TU2 cam
ported 317 heads
ls9 gaskets
arp head bolts
comp pushrods
patriot gold duals
th400
trans brake
yank converter
fmvb
twin on3 70mm .68ar turbos
custom log manifolds
my goals are to make 500-600whp on low boost and once the fuel system gets upgraded to 80lb injectors and an a1000 to make around 700 to the wheels. im tuning myself with hp tuners and a 2 bar sd tune. heres what i have so far
the 5.3 on the left, the 6.0 on the right
the shaved truck intake im using along with the fast fuel rails and the 60lb dekas
thats all i have for now. once i get more stuff sold ill be buying more parts. my 317's should come here soon and ill have some pictures of the port job ill have on them.

Hey Dave i read that thread and its really good and has allot of really good info. The reason I'm thinking 70's is because they should come in pretty quick due to the cam and cubes and the .68 exhaust housing. Also, twin precisions would run me roughly $1200 and i can get the 70's for half the price. Also tirefryin_s10 recommended them on a different thread and he runs them with .68 housings i believe. And a video on YouTube the denmah posted has a nova with twin 70's and they seemed to spool quick. My goals are just to start out small, then once fuel system gets upgraded I'm going to see how much she can go until i hit 9's.

Seems like your last setup took for ever to get into boost.

I'm putting a yank converter in unless theirs something better. The last setup had a bad boost leak through egr block off so i fixed that. Then it made boost pretty quick but i think the piece of **** converter was slippingething so it want pulling as hard asit should at 18lbs and then it blew a gasket

yeah i was looking at another ebay turbo by cx racing. its a 67mm and about the same price as the 70's but i just dont know. i trust the on3 units because i liked my 76mm so i know ill like the quality of the 70's but im a bit weary on the cx racing or other turbos. idk why, their all chinese?

heres a link to the 67's

heres a link to the gt35's
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CXRacing-T4-...a6f1da&vxp=mtr
both cx racing units. i would probably do the 67's because i have a feeling the gt35's would be too small considering i will have a tu2 cam, ported 317's, and trans brake with 2 step so i know spooling from a dig wont be a prob but i want something quick spooling on the street and such. but im no expert on turbos what so ever.

I use Precesion 62/62's and it took my 4,000lb Chevelle to 118mph! in the 1/8th using a completely stock 5.2!

ive never heard of a 5.2 ls engine? lol just bustin your *****. if i had the money for precisions, believe me, i would be buying them. but for now the ebay gt35's will have to due since they have similiar specs as the 6262's. btw, impressive times!!! these should bring my 3200lb s10 into 9's no prob.
