Well in rust's true form, the more you look - the more you find.

Went down the rabbit hole and cut out all the bad spots on the passenger's side.

Also got the passenger's side rail all welded in, save the floor pans.

Thats all for now. Hope to have the floor pan in and the driver's side rail completed by the weekend.

Didn't quite get everything done I'd hoped. Life gets in the way, ya know?

Here's the driver's side frame rail before I removed it. Not nearly as bad as the other one, but still needs upgraded

Shot of the driver's rail removed, looking to the passenger's side

Here is how I drew the cut line....

First cut:

Made a second cut 1/2" inboard to give me an edge to weld. Used a hammer and dolly to flatten out the trans tunnel side and made a few relief cuts. You can see where I peeled back the floor at the tie-in point. Hope to bend that back down and close the floor when done.

Test fit

RUST cut out.....

Battery tray and other rust removed.

Looking a little bare

Driver's rail in. Still need to finish some welding, and attach the floor to the rail.

Driver's side complete

Again

Another shot from the driver's side:

Just a couple spots to fill!

Here's one showing the flange for the inner fender removed.

Floor pan in, starting on firewall.

From the inner fender

Floor pan and upper section in:

Using my sheet metal "brake" aka a line and a hammer! lol

Bottom section in:

From the bottom before welding

Burned in

Pass. rail

Driver. Small amount of work to do on the floor pan where someone "clearanced" it.... Grrr

New Inner fender support / firewall tie- in

From the top!

Battery tray out and new metal in. Not sure if i'm going to put the battery back in there or relocate it.

Inner fender finished

And look what showed up.

Welds look nice. Lots of work. You work fast...

Thanks... Never fast enough though it seems.

Knocked the undercoating off the drivers side inner fender, and started to replace some sheet metal that I'd neglected in the past.

Eek.

Small update:

I cut my x pipe in half, and made a transition to a 3.5" pipe with Vband connection.

Started removing someone's poor patch job, to find... more rust.

Marked

Cut out, and new piece in

Thats all for now. Hope to finish this out in the next couple days.

Lots of time in this revision, but it will be sweet when done. Did you sell off the old 5.7/AFR head deal? The iron block and turbo setup will add a decent amount of weight to the front end, did you think about an aluminum 5.3? Any work to the heads(which casting are they anyway)?

The ls1 short block is sitting in the garage. Top end is sold. Contemplated putting a set of 317's on it and running it, but I might just sell it.

The 05 iron block was given to me, and needs rings and a cam - which I intend to do.

I'm not terribly concerned with the weight, though I'd like it to be lighter. I'll keep my eye out for an AL 5.3, but last I saw they were bringing pretty good money.

Heads will be stock 706's (non-castech). BTR springs / Ti retainers, with new seals.

Steepss, the build is looking good, going to be a sweet ride.
What intercooler are you running, if you have a website and or dimension
of the cooler it would really help. is it 3" inlets and outlets? whats the power rating ?

Its not that big. I want to say its a 24x12x3 CX racing. 3" in/ out. Not sure on HP rating, kinda hoping E85 will be my saving grace. I just found the biggest off the shelf unit that would fit. Might end up going to a 4" if I have IAT problems.

I spent a couple hours cleaning the god-forsaken undercoating and paint off the inner fenders last night. I looked like a coal miner when I was done.

Drivers side cleaned

Pass Side before

Say hello to my littal freind!

Sold the t56 and Monster clutch and picked up a Magnum t56 an McCleod RST with only 3k miles on it.

Apparently I was running when I took these...

Impressive. I didn't see this one coming. So now with the new trans and clutch, ford rear, DSS axles, etc. What would you say the weak point is? I am curious what spare parts you will be bringing to the track this year. I know last year you had a couple axles in tow.

You're thinking of 2 years ago! Only thing I think I'll need is a spare change of underwear........ in case she starts to dance in the big end.

Weak point.... ? Not sure, and I hope I don't find it! Probably the driver lol.

Got some mud laid down on the "roll pan".

Still need to give it a final prep, and then some paint, but it looks much better than before.

Started test fitting the Magnum T56

Handy silicone coupler for a template

Done

Also started piecing together my fuel system. Ugh. I have a lot of fittings and line to buy. This will all be on the bottom of the tank... for clarification.

Worked on the heater hose plumbing last night.

Here are the bulkheads I made. -10 Steel bung welded to a 3/8" npt bung. Inside the firewall will be a 90* elbow to a standard heater hose connection.

Lots of work, but it'll be worth it in the finished product, and ease of access to heater hoses, as they were behind the pass. head before, and a real PITA to get to.
