Even at $6500 for a clutch and a brand new top of the line GM manual trans.. that is a drop in the bucket compared to some autos ive seen. Also your right no T56 can hold a candle to a Glide.. all reasons why i made the decision to switch.
I agree to a point-you still have fail points in even a "bulletproof" auto. This forum is rittiled with billion dollar auto trannies and converters eating themselves in short order, much of the time for no ryme or reason.

Glide is superior to a T56 in a short run drag race scenario only. Thats not up fro argument, but is a one trick pony. On the road course, 1/2 mile or Mile racing, and IMO for daily enjoyment, I'll still with my beat T56. I am sure I will go auto as well when I am ready to build a dedicated drag car.

The only thing a T56 is better for is a road course. Daily enjoyment is relative but i agree the manual is more fun. However In NO WAY is a T56 better than a glide in a roll race. Couple that with a GV OD for street driving and you have the best GM transmission combination there is.

The whole purpose of the Glide/GV purchase was to build the ultimate all around trans dominating the roll and 1/4 mile races. Im not sure how you think manually shifting from 3-4/4-5 in a 1500ft distance is going to be quicker than a one time auto shift.

Anxious to hear how it works daily driving. That tall first gear was always my main gripe.

That's the beauty of gear splitting. I'm hoping the combination of relatively low weight and quick spool will make this car perform "normal"

The tall gear is the best part on the street

And as far as what's "better" on the street I can tell you that when I can put down an asston of power on the street and never break anything it seems alright to me

Was more thinking about the ease of going 1 - OD -2 - OD to give 4 distinct gear ratios in sequence ?

Instead of just the typical 1 -2 - OD

Maybe not needed anyway ?

The GV comes with a foot control switch.

Ive been debating on how i want to control it.. There is no gear identification on the trans so speed sensor would probably be out. Maybe RPM based?

Well That kind of sucks.. I was hoping for it to be a handful out of the box. what are your expectations for the car with the new motor?

Me, I just want it strong and reliable where I was pushing it to before. Keep the bottom end happy. I only have 4 bolt heads but never had a hg problem. At that level it should be 170area if I get back to the track ever. Which would be plenty to keep me happy

Can also setup an output chart on the holley to cross tps or map vs speed which is how I would use it. I don't see why a guy would want to split low unless u where crutching a converter that isn't right for the combo

If u do want to setup a gear system, depending on your shifter you can setup micro switches on most for gear identify.

The manual would feel faster because it is faster for that split second it's hooking and going. Every shift is a chance to botch the shift and upset the tires and chassis. The extra power put down by the manual can't overcome the smooth seamless pull of the auto in a uber high hp application.

I've seen a few examples of 1/2 mile cars with glides getting it done, but never a mile. Have any of you experienced them at a mile event. I would think it would take one hell of a cooler.
