Default Interesting intake

This popped up over on the Gen5 forum.

Looks like it could cover a wide range of fitments, similar design to some CNC'd stuff, but as this is a cast piece a much more friendly price.

I seen it in person at LS Fest West a few weeks ago. Good looking piece for sure. I didn't get much info on it but the car that it was on I believe was one of the designers/builders of the intake.

Some more info here

Which also links to here lol. Some graphs in this thread though and if legit do seem fairly impressive.

The fact that it looks like it made more torque than the stock intake above 4000 is very optimistic as most sheet metal intakes don't outperform till in the mid 5000 range.

I know I don't need anymore power or torque below 4000rpm, and if I do, I'll downshift, haha.

Considering at 4000rpm, my tires starting spinning on the dyno at 700ft/lbs of torque, losing 10-15 won't be missed.

That aspect does seem a little odd, especially as the runners are very short. As you say, you certainly wouldnt expect it to perform that well below 5...maybe even 6k.
Although it does have a good size plenum, more so than a lot of similar intakes. But it would still be more of a high rpm unit

And it looks good.

It has a lot of things working for it. It looks good, it seems to be well constructed (guessing from the appearance), the dyno numbers on a stock ls3 from 4000 up seem to be promising, and the price is just slightly higher than the current composites from MSD and FAST.

Like I said, if it gives up a little below 4000rpm, I'm not overly concerned, but making more power at 4500 vs the typical 5000-6000 when sheetmetal intakes usually shine, that's huge because a lot of people hit that 4500rpm-5500rpm window on shifts.

Sanitary look. I like it too. Out of the budget for anything I'm interested in doing. But certainly not out of the question for the guys playing with more than SBE stuff.

I'll be curious to see what the next year or so of results it produces.

I figure I can sell my msd intake, and offset the cost for the new intake.

No doubt the usual, not a paying sponsor, so here's the webpage anyway

https://lodspeedworks.com/

Hopefully they will get it into production, unlike others that pop up, float about for years then never make it.

I have a decision to make... should I keep my MAST cathedral heads, or should I go with a rectangle port set of heads that allows me a wider option of intakes? Who knows.

I've never really seen any compelling evidence to suggest square ports really are any better than cathedrals. Although it does seem anyone making intakes do favour the square port market.
There are a small few tests online with cathedral vs square...and even though the square ports claim much higher flow numbers, on the dyno there is negligible difference.

Is it worth changing heads though ? I just cant see it.

I've been using the same TFS225cc heads since 2008. If I want more power....just add more boost, bigger turbos etc. I dont believe my heads are a major limiting factor, certainly not enough to justify the cost to change.

I too met these folks at LS Fest West. Another great feature of the intake is that it is cast, so it should be at a much more affordable price point than the billet CNC units available.

What intake are you looking for that isn't made for cathedrals?

It looks so good. I hope it gets made. I can't imagine it not selling at that price point.

Supposedly it won't be till Devember'ish till they get the cathedral port version to market.
