Got it running last Saturday. Worked through 3-4 small issues, and then it fired up nice on the 5th crank:

I'll take the one on the left thanks.

Next? Kinda goes like this:
1. Swap on the replacement water pump. #1 weeped in front, was told by some knowledgeable guys that it was bad. So I bought a new one, and had Hambone Fab weld on the 16AN fitting and close up the hose inlet/outlet on the side.

2. My local buddies want me to change some of the wiring, so bought a new Holley main harness ($60) so that's powered right to the battery not how it was done when another buddy did the board. Also adding some bigger relays and changing some other parts of the board. I also need to run the lines to the waste gate and the line for the dome pressure sensor.

3. I have to address the rear end. Car has ladder bars and a Ford 9 inch out back. The center section looks like a stock Ford piece. I pulled an axle and counted 31 splines but none of us have any confidence that the guts will hold up. So I'm saving up for a new / used center section, axles and driveshaft. NOW in the meantime if I find a smoking deal on a drive shaft I'll swap one in cuz g'dammit I want to drive it. I have a DS here that I got from a buddy and it's 2 inches too short.

I could add more steps but I'll hold off for now lol.

Going through that issue now with a stock ford 9 inch center section. Guy I talked to rates the stock cast iron third member at 250-300 hp ll

Ugh, got similar feedback from other folks too.

One option is I upgrade the guts, have Hambone Fab weld a back brace and some gussets.

Another option is I get a new fabricated housing. I'm thinking I do that at some other point because I can get this one welded on for small money.

I don’t think the housing is the problem. It’s the third member it’s self. That cast iron pinion support and yoke is where they crack. Stock housing, aftermarket third member case, spool/Detroit locker is good for some power

I agree on the center section being the weak link. I prefer a spool over a locker. I've driven cars with lockers that really wiggled the back end when letting off the gas. Bob

I had a locker a long time ago, it was kinda spooky not a fan. My 5th gen has a True Trac locker and drives like a posi to me. But I'll do a a spool in the banana.

9" center sections are easy to swap out so id set up two; one for street with a posi, and one for racing with spool. 31 spline is fine until you start leaving off the brake under big power imo. Once you get to that stage your bet is to skip all the BS and go straight for a 35 spline set up. Buy another good third member and build it with the spool, 35 spline axles, all the ARP stuff etc. Full build. Then keep your 31 spine third member/axles and parts for street running. The old War cases are pretty dog gone good you'll want to check into what you have. Even if its not a war case they aren't "bad" just some are better than others. Trac loc for 9" aint bad at all and id be surprised if you munched one on the street but for the track or hard launches spool is mandatory. The last thing anyone wants is one wheel to bite and one to kick loose and have the thing turn hard on ya. Dangerous and happens a bit too often

As for your housing? It should be fine if your good with ladder bars double check all the welds and run it if it is built well. Maybe post some pics so we can help ya assess

Heres a launch with one wheel biting and one not

Not running two center sections, not money bags like you Mike.

I'm doing 35 or 40 spline guts for this rear end. Spool.

John, what gear are you planning to run? I have a brand new Moser aluminum through bolt center section with 4.11 and a 35 spline spool that I might be selling. I’ll know more after PRI.

I havent been up on the last few year of racing breakages but 35 spline is good to go imo. 40 is super minty. If your busting up 35 spline axles my guess is something is wrong with the chassis/set up

Another option is if you won't ever need taller than a 3.54 gear... a dana 60 from a ford truck or dodge van at the junkyard and get the mounts welded on shortened to length + 40 spline axles and spool.
