Aw shucks just another clapped out Camaro.

Reminds me, BG has a good scale, so I'll weigh the car.

Car wise my to-do list has been okay, I have more items on my truck prep list lol.

For the curious (and the bored), here's what's up.

I need fuel cans or jugs, prob buy a ratchet bar and use that in the bed and figure it out from there. I'd like to bring at least 10 gallons. I could buy vp or sunoco fuel jugs, re use some race gas cans or get a fuel caddy.

Car burned up the fan relay again, so this weekend I'll be investigating, bought a Klein amp clamp so I can check if the fan motor is going bad. Assuming it's not, I have a 75 amp relay getting sourced from a friend though someone asked me why I'm not running a 100am solid state relay. I honestyl didn't know about them. Should I get one of those? I'll rewire the power wire (10 gauge) and check the ground wire.

Are you ramping the fan on gradually or just having it come on full blast?
I've been told those big Taurus fans have to be PWM controlled, otherwise they burn stuff up with the heavy amp load at start up.

Are you running the 3.8L Taurus/ Lincoln fan ? Same happened to me , melted a 70 amp relay running it on high which my meter shows as 35 amps . I let the ecu control low speed with a generic 40 amp relay and have manual high speed operation for staging lanes and burnout or 100° weather and traffic. Using 2 generic 40 amp relays in parallel mounted in front of rad to help control heat , this was cheaper than 1 70A relay and has been trouble free for many yrs and miles

1994 3.8 Taurus/Contour fan.

I just have the high wired.

When you say 2 amps in parallel I don't know what you mean. the power wire I would Y it to 2 relays?

I'm going to put in some short term effort into this current fan but I want to switch to a PWM brushless fan for next year.

Yes , Y the wires . I can take a picture if that helps? Relays are Amazon specials with wiring plugs , I buy a box of 6 and pack some spares for a long trip but that has been unnecessary

Wow that one looks sharp Pete.

Garth for now I'm gonna try my buddy's 70 amp relay (he makes them for work, powersports company), and I also have a TE 75 amp one here too. I'll first try his but I'll bring the other one with me along with all my wiring stuff, so one way or another I'll be able to test it at home once or twice and make some passes at LS Fest.

In the future I'll go to a newer brushless fan, something like a 6th gen fan, single C7 fan, something like that. Wire it so it can run at all percentages just like a new car. That's the ticket.

My tuner peeps checked over my tune from before, also looked at how much fuel it's been adding in the last year and a half, and it's nothing big, tune is on point.

My gotta list:
-Gotta fill c02 bottle
-Gotta buy an organizer for all my wiring stuff
-Gotta fill these cans with E85
-Gotta buy a set of cheap sockets to bring with

You got me confused with Greg on the relay situation but I’ll chime in. Go spal brushless when the time comes and run them/it PDM from Holley. Radiator wise as you know I’ve yet to put my system to the test however I am confident it will handle the task nicely. The wizard set up is nice and they will work to need all of your needs should you go that route.

I hope everything goes well this weekend and will be looking for the updates. It’s been a long time coming, be safe and enjoy the event.

Thanks I just need to meet up with my buddy Ben L and get his relay. I've got 10 and 12 gauge TXL wire, I want to see if the 10 can fit into the Deutche connector if not I'll do the 12 which 2 wiring buddies say is what they use.

Fixed.

Ended up using a TE 75amp relay, and rewired the power wires in 12G as suggested by the inner council.

For now I'm jumping the signal wire that usually switched 12V, I think I have a bad fuse but I had a ton of other sh%% to do. Basically means that the fan will run even if ign is off if the engine is hot, but it all turns off when I have the master on/off in back engaged. I'm eventually going to rewire the car about 50% and fix some early f^ckery that I did when I basically knew nothing about wiring. I used a generic fuse panel like you'd get for a 1st gen and it's located in the factory location which sucks to access.

Good chance I'll make LS Fest, just coordinating my borrowing of a trailer from a buddy. I am right now ordering a spare fan relay, power (bat to relay) fuse, 2 extra main belts in case I pitch mine, some extra TXL wire.

I am trying.

I finally made some passes.

I'll add pics of the slips tomorrow but the recap is I made 6 passes.

12.4 - Forgot to turn on C02
10.2 - 3 second boost ramp, 15 lbs, I guess my buddy Manna thought I needed training wheels lol
9.68
9.38
10. something, hit boost safety
9.52 hit rev limiter on 1-2
9.38

Here is the final pass, 6.04 in the 1/8th, and 123mph

Very respectable for a first outing John!
Curious to see how much you can whittle away at that before the LC9 is ready, 8's maybe?

Yeah I'm totally going for 8's this year.

I'll post the slips for posterity lol today, my best 60 was 1.47 and when my buddy (Wes, owns Sho-Me-Speed in MO) was making changes they all worked great but the 60 slowed down. We'll fix that.

I have a handling wobble above 125-130 I need to figure that out.

A little 60' work and running it out the back should get you that 8 - nice job!

Thanks Jeremy. I hope there will be at least one private rental at Martin that would be where I'd go for it.

Car has a handling issue over 125 mph, at least one veteran racer who saw tsome passes said it was bumpsteer. So I'm going to concentrate over the next 2 weeks on changing over to a TRZ bumpsteer kit and go over the shocks and tie rods. check castor and toe. If I can get that decent I'll light the wick on this bi%%h.

You’ll get it at Martin - I’d love to check that place on during a rental, it’s too busy on tnt to get anything done. I’m spoiled having mid Michigan motorplex 35 minutes away - so I rarely venture further away.

Bump steer would be my guess too.

Bumpsteer is dangerous man! Don’t wad it up tryin to be a hero. I’d just work on the 60 foot. You know the potential is there for it to do what you want.

@3 window , so when I was going over 125 the car handled, not sure the best way to put it, wobbling. Jesse Coulter (long time 4 second ls guy) saw it and said check the bumpsteer. That being said, I bolted all that stuff up and maybe something isn't right. I have stock spindles.

I have been told by a few to jack up the car by the front sub and see what the tires are doing. I think my real move here is to get that TRZ kit and then try to get into my buddy's shop who who drag race and also have alignment machine. I've been told first gens have this issue with stock stuff.

The 60 we were not really working it, I have videos and I can text you one, car just drove out on 6.5. We tried 8 and the car slowed down maybe not enough timing. I noticed on one of the logs my AF after I was off the brake was in the 10s. Wasn't in the 11.8 - 12.2 range until halfway through first gear.

I'm also on my original wide band so in the back of my mind they might only last a few years so I might grab one. Welcome your input always as you know lol.
