Maximizing volume inside the tanks is NOT usually a good thing since it doesn't usually flow any better and delays the transient response between compressor and throttle body. Also, putting some additional mass on the cooler stabilizes temperatures when it acts as a heat sink during short bursts. Even more important in some cases, the low profile and rounded end tank profiles block far less air going around them to the rest of the cooling stack. I have seen plenty of cars have cooling issues directly related to their giant, flat end tanks that blocked flow to what would have otherwise been more than enough radiator for the engine.

I've never seen one of the universal chinese units with fabricated end tanks. They're all cast.

Although I've only seen a few thousand.

Certainly true on blocking the radiator! I went from a stock water pump to a Davies Craig chasing coolant temps and it certainly helped drop 20 degrees. I was fine with that but also thought it should still run a bit cooler, I removed the large treadstone intercooler from in front of the rad and temps dropped 30 degrees I knew it would be something but it was shocking to me coolant temp dropped that much. On top of the coolant drop, spool time decreased as well... win win!

I would imagine the blocking of a water rad, would be far more down to the IC core design and area than the actual end tanks themselves. Unless if course the end tanks were absolutely enormous.

Obviously removing the IC entirely...will improve airflow to the water radiator.....at the expense of cooling any charge air lol

Yes not just the end tanks but the entire 12.5 x 4.5 x 30" contraption. By your own admission adding a simple 12 x 4.5 x 4.5" air water core is the perfect replacement and doesn't block the rad. But then I couldn't use an inferior chinese turbo with a Garrett core so I had to get a new turbo as well.

Quite clearly you're still on another planet....as nowhere did I say that or even imply it. Keep taking the drugs.

Just because your shots are child sized, your beer is weak, your woman are fat and toothless doesn't mean the rest of us have to be grumpy like the ole brit! Chin up lil fella! Or at least spend the weekend using your noggin for a better come back.

But since you brought up drugs, maybe you're the one taking them as you forgot your numerous previous statements on intercoolers:

Bell some say are good. CSF seem to offer nice stuff too at sensible prices.

Treadstone maybe below those.

China....well, they're everything else.

This is now a very old article, but still good info. It doesnt cover really modern stuff like Garrett units, which are truly superb.

http://www.are.com.au/techtalk/intecoolersMR.htm

If you can afford a Garrett and they do a size that fits, then go for one.

If not, Bell, Treadstone etc offer cheaper stuff. Where the Garrett excels over the others is not so much how they flow for any given size...but also how well they cool. So if it is a low boost, low heat setup, then using those cores may not be as important and a cheaper Treadstone etc would be quite fine.

So in case you forgot what you wrote....I'll re-quote you.

And again....where did I ever state the above ? Of course, absolutely nowhere.

You quoting unrelated items seems a bit odd ?

Feeling cheeky ehh, so you are going against your previous statements that Garrett 1000hp cores are no longer the desired solution at the lowly price of $400? You leg hump Garrett more then most, yet don't even use them yourself... seems a bit catawompus.

Of course a Garrett core is a desired solution in many cases, of whatever rating is deemed most suitable ( despite it already having been discussed why such ratings often mean little )
And yes you can buy various Garrett cores for $400, and yes of course I have used them.
And I have one sitting right here too

Damn, you went through a great deal of trouble trying to explain why people should spend 2 or 3 times as much on a Garrett core that they might not even need and then cheaped out all to hell on that carpet.

Carpet will for sure block airflow....and that section of carpet is because of dirty workboots !

I think it's dirty because that core blocked airflow to the carpet 😉

God damn! Reading this thread has me wore out...

steve is right. Garret.. hands down... makes the best core. That’s a fact.

Belo is just overpriced. Garret is twice the core for the same money.

Steve is also wrong, most CHEAP Chinese Intercooler I’ve seen do not have cast end tanks. Nor do they have fabricated sheet metal intakes. They are more like cheap “stamped” sheet metal ends.

The better Chinese intercooler do have cast end tanks. Like Treadstone, Summit, etc etc.

If your running 9psi on a SBE build, then anything will work cuz your not even making big power. If you make a million hp and your junk *** intercooler keeps your iat without losing 4psi through it, then badass man keep killing the game. If you wanna buy a core and weld yourself the best intercooler money can buy, then more power to ya.

This **** is out of hand 😂
