Default New Turbo build 04 RCSB Silverado

I typed a nice little post and the whole thing got deleted. I don’t feel like typing it again so I’ll make it short as I can.
It’s time to turbo my sons truck. 2004 short bed regular cab 4wd 5.3. Engine is all stock. Trans is built as strong as I can build it. Transfer case is built with a 6 pinion planet. Rear end is built with Yukon gears and posi. 3200 Convertors that stalls 3800 in 4wd on the footbrake.

we ordered the turbo last night. We ordered a VSR 7875 T51r 1.25. A/r, cast wheel. Plans of 8-12psi for a while. I have a new set of double valve springs for it. Cam and heads later.

I usually build my manifolds but they make numerous ones for a Chevy truck, so what’s the best choice in manifold for the passenger side? Thick, built well and free flowing. I plan on keeping the driver side stock manifold on and making a crossover pipe to go into the rear of the passenger turbo manifold. So what’s a good choice there?

wastegate. I have a tial on mine and it’s lasted for years. I know not to cheap out on a wastegate, but is the VSR units reliable for daily driving or skip that and get a Tial?

For now, fuel system will be 80lb dekas and an aeromotive 340.

Trick Turbo, he's been doing this for a minute now and you could say has a handle on the 99-13 trucks.

I was eyeing the trick manifold, but its quite expensive. It's not out of the question, but I'm interested in a possible cheaper alternative.

Huron Speed has a manifold that is a little cheaper than the Trick manifold.
Hell, Huron Speed has a whole kit.
I'd buy their T6 kit/manifold, run a T6 to T4 adapter while you dip your toes in the boost pond and plop a T6 turbo on there for when things get serious but that's just me.

Thats another one I'm looking at but I think we are going to stay t4 for quite a while. He's making decent money right now but he's still in school. He wants a fast street brawler that'll put an *** whipping on most stuff around here from the red light. It already bails on just about anything that catches him at the light but they end up passing him if given the distance. He just needs more power to hold them off.

where in florida are you?

Honestly I wouldn't want an 88mm tho. Its going on a stock engine, no cam or heads (yet). Plus above anything else, we want it to spool quickly. it'll be a while before I'm serious with it, he just turned 20 and he has a very heavy foot and can barely resist racing people. So it will be limited on power and speed limited until he can control himself. He's gotten much better.
I'd almost be interested in the awd unit, but the 4l60 was built not too long ago. Sonnax billet input/output, 4l79 drum, billet reaction shaft, billet overrun hub etc etc. It should be able to take 10-12lbs on this truck for a while. But him, he can break a ball bearing with a rubber hammer.

o, yea you are quite a ways away. Like 16-18 hours I think. We went to disney years ago and it was quite a haul.

My son's friend was trying to convince him to buy the 88mm he had, and i told him it wasn;t and ideal choice. I know a 7875 works good on a daily driver 5.3 so i told him thats what we are going with.

Only problem is i want the wastegate on the manifold in the turn, right under the turbo. I don't want it under the truck. I'm not sure I can weld on the manifold. And my plans were to have this wrapped up over a weekend. I already have to build the crossover pipe.

CX Racing 4" works well, Treadstone for a few more bucks, low boost means low heat so a cheaper unit will work until you turn it up.
I'd also suggest using a Rife IAT sensor (Motion Raceworks carries them), its way faster than the factory sensor and will give you more accurate data on your IC's efficiency.
I wouldn't skimp out on a waste gate, I used a Tial 46mm on my last car and twin 38mm Turbo Smart units on my current car, both work excellent and gave me no issues.
BOV feel free to get cheap.

That IC looks identical to the CX Racing F-Body IC.

This is the same one I used on last car; it worked really well at 14 lbs. of boost from a T7875 turbo.

Thanks for taking the time opost pics. Gives me some ideas. I really rather no cut his bumper like that, but if I have no choice, so be it. My plan was to go along side of the radiator.

If you guys care to see, I'll post progress as I put it together. I was considering doing some videos on it. Try to make some youtube $$. lol

After some consideration, I think we are just going to get the Huron cold side kit. I like the way it fits and it'll be less work and finding parts. I think we are ordering that next week. I plan on installing intercooler ahead of time and changing valve springs ahead of time. I'm also gonna tune it with the 80lb injectors and a speed density 2 bar COS ahead of time. If I don't finish it in one weekend, he will be driving my truck to work... which I rather not do that.
