Question 383 ci & TTI Street Kit, good combo or not?

A few of you might remember in some of my posts that I am in the market for a turbo kit where I don't have to cut up my car to make it work. Since there is only one kit out there that will fit my needs, that kit is the Turbo Tech Street Kit.

I'm looking for some advice/opinions so here's my questions:

Lets say this winter I install my new turbo kit on my car which currently has a stock short block. With my current STG 2 heads and Custom cam 226 222 116 lsa, I am putting down 412 HP & 388. I plan on just running 7lbs boost and I am hoping that should get me 525 HP & 550 TQ at the wheels.

To make everything play nice together down the road, I would like to buy a new forged short block and some STG 2 LQ4/LQ9 6.0l heads.(1.5 years) Since the price of a stock crank and a Eagle 4" crank price difference is about $500, should I or shouldn't I just get the Eagle 4" stroke? My stock short block will go into storage. A 402 LS2 block would be nice, but I want to keep my knock sensors.

Would a 383 ci work well with that turbo kit or any other kit? Would I end up having a boat load more TQ than HP with a 4" stroke?

What would be the pros and cons of using a 4" crank? I figure for $500 more I can just have a stroked, turbo and N20 (very small shot) Camaro. It just sounds good.

Keep in mind, I am not looking for max power ( I know ther are other ways) and having a nice smooth idle like I have now is a must.

What do you guys think, go for it or is it too much?

Bill

it is not a very good setup, that Log manifold cant take the pressure that a 383 is going to through it.

that kit is great for what its designed for, streetability on a stockish car

Yea I was thinking the same set up you are and decided to just keep it 348 and put the 500 into the turbo kit or guages or fuel system. The 348 will easily make the power you want and even more. Just go forged 348 save the 500 for the little things you will need it a turbo kit adds up quik.

It will work, but not if your looking to go for huge numbers. I'd say anything over 15psi will be "interesting" with that setup. Have you looked into the TTi Race Setup?

So stick with stock cubes. All a 383 is going to do is add to the massive restriction of one log header.

I would look at the Hi Flow kit that is coming out in a month or so for 3995 will make a lot more power than the TTi and you keep all the accesories also.

ill let you know soon enough as im done doing a 383 with a Phamspeed turbo kit,and i cant see how it would be worse than a 346.....the extra cubes will make the turbo spool faster as well as raise the area under the curve....i do agree that it would DEFINITELY add more backpressure if u used log style manifolds, but if you used better headers and a reverse split cam then that would take care of that problem....guess we'll see.we can compare curves when im done.good luck with whatever you decide

If there are guys running 15# boost and more on the TTI street kit (see others recent threads) and putting down over 600rwhp then I dont see why a little ole 383 with 7 lbs would be too much for this system. He only wants to make 525ish, my car almost makes that now. I think for the kind of mild streetable kit you want where you dont have to cut holes and relocate batteries then the TTI street kit is still a viable alternative. I would however reccomend getting the upgraded T-76 kit with the bigger log and X-over. This kit is a proven reliable kit and doesnt have difficulties when used for what it was designed for.

Lets all remember what this kit is for, after all they do make a Race kit for the people who want to go big

I feel sorry for Turbo kit manufactuers these days, eveyone wants 1000 hp no relocations or mods from stock configuation, Cold AC, perfect street manners, and reliability like a VW. All for under $4000. I dont really think you can have it all. Street car or Racecar we got to make up our minds

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question -- since I know nothing about FI -- but I think you can (must) keep your LS1 knock sensors, but you have to extend the wires. Most places that sell the LS1 short block also have prefabed extensions too. Just a piece of info there.

yes the ls2 block you can get knock sensors
dont do big cubes on that kit, just a 347 and 10 psi will get you 550rwhp on a dyno jet which is what you said you wanted.
how many times are you going to keep asking the same question?

if the street kit is limited to 600hp, and you can get that with stock cid.. ask yourself again why it is worth an extra 500bux (it always ends up costing more) to go up to 383?

if they made a 346 iron block i would have taken it over the 6L.

the cubes will choke that system, it will hurt you more than help, you want to run as little exhaust through that log as possible. that is why he wastegate is before the log.

i think you should drop the a/c and get the race kit.. how hot does it get in ohio anyways?

Last time I checked, you can't use knock sensors on a LS2 block with a LS1 computer, I tuned (3) 427 LS2 C5s and they don't use knock sensors.

550 RWHP is what I would like to have but just looking at all the options out there. I figure run less boost with more cubes. What's worse for the log manifold kit, more boost or more cubes? I just want the kit to last a very long time, so that is most important to me.

What question do I keep asking? This is the 1st time I asked about using a 383 with this kit...

i cant see how if ur going to be flowing more air in and out it wouldnt work better so long as you can find some way to take care of the exhaust restriction....ie reverse split cam and better manifolds.....no log manifolds.if guys are using 408/402/6.0ltrs then why wouldnt a 383 work?makes no sense.guess time will tell.

Is it really the cubic volume of the chamber size that matters or is it the density of the gasses? I wouldnt think that a 383 making 525 HP would be creating more gasses than a 346 making 600 hp. Think of how much more air and fuel needs to be compressed in the 346 to make that kind of power and then when it burns and expands????? Im not saying I know this Im just asking conversationaly. Before boost comes on yes I can see how the 383 makes more exhaust that is a no brainer.

I guess I cant understand why this kit isnt a good choice for the target power level???

If he only wants 550rwhp there is no need for the extra cubes. Stock cubes with the TTi Street Kit could make that no problem. Just make sure its built for boost though.
