Default ATI pulleys for CHEAP!

I called ATI up yesterday to buy a new 7 psi pulley and they said 90 bucks and i said yeah right. I decided to make my own since I have all the equitment i need.

Im going to make them in the 4.1 (4.55-5 psi),3.4 (7psi), and the 3.2 (8psi) and i may do some custom diameters for a couple of bucks more if you want them. they will be ready in a couple weeks for $50 bucks each.

These are turned out of 6061-T6 Alcoa aluminum. All machining is done on a state of the art Mazak CNC Lathe. The pulleys will look the same as ATI and will have the same high quality that they offer.

Taking orders now.

ATI's pullies are also anodized to toughen the outer skin.

Are you doing that, too?

It seems to do fine on the crank and SC pulley. But, it looks like my idler/tensioner pulley will need frequent replacement. (The anodized aluminum is not enough. They should have made that one out of steel, or something tougher than aluminum.)

Look at how it wears down:

One thing about it, it looks like it would be easy to make, compared to the pullies that have ribs.

Thanks.

The crank pulley you see is scrubbed up because of when the crank bolt backed out when I increased my RWHP from 404 to 486 with a smaller SC pulley and headers and it was wobbling about.

If you get your hands on a Vortech Pulley for the V-9 let me know I'll probably buy.

I need a hardend IDLER shell also. Mine's not as bad as Michaels, but it needs replacement.

Actually, what I would LOVE to see is an 8 rib version of the current crank, idler & blower pulley. If you can make hardened 8 rib versions that look the same as the 6 rib, I'd be up for that.

Guys Ill make you anything you need. I wasnt aware that everything wore out so fast. 8 rib setups should be no problem and I could make the idlers out of 8620 (hard steel) so they last along time. I can measure the idler pulley tomorrow because ive gotta take it off to change to my new 7psi pully and belt. Send prints to my email address and well talk about it. Custom stuff if no problem.

How much for an 8 rib setup? I would also be interested in the hard steel idler. I'm running the 3.4 right now, but would also be interested in a 3.2 pulley. Everything depending on the prices, but your way sounds better then ATI pricing.

are you guys experiencing belt slippage with a 6 rib setup?

Sweet man If you can make me a pulley for 12 PSI that would be great one that doesn't wear out so fast, i wasn't aware of that either...

Default Re: ATI pulleys for CHEAP!

Ive got some ideas.

1. Steel supercharger pulleys

2. Im willing to make an 8 rib setup but I want to sell atleast 3 sets.

3. I think the steel idlers are a good idea because they will last forever.

-------------------------------------------------
Prices:

Aluminum Pulleys $50.00

Steel Pulleys $42.00

Steel Idlers $35.00

8 rib Drive systems (Steel Idler,Aluminum crank and supercharger pully, belt not included) $250.00
(min. 3)

I got the prints done for the idler and the supercharger pulley but i need to get my hands on a crank pulley so i can copy it for the 8 rib setup. I dont feel like taking mine of my car to measure it because it was hard to put it on.

Tell me what you guys want and i will get going on it. I will require payment before they are machined because alot of this stuff will be custom and i cant afford to get screwed. Im just doing this to help you guys out and make a little money for my motor im beefing up (rods and pistons). Delivery will be 2-3 weeks.

Email orders to: Camarogod98@hotmail.com

Later,

Jay H.

Few things:

1)Weight - Steel vs Aluminum. Are you planning to CNC a bunch of holes in the steel pullies to reduce weight. I don't need more weight hanging off the snout off the LS1 or blower for that matter. If you could make the steel version weigh as minimal as possible & make sure each pulley is balanced, then
2)Finish - How were you planning on finishing the steel pullies? Powder coating or just spray paint?
3)Sizes - If I do 8-rib custom setup, I would like a 7.5" diameter crank pulley instead of the stock 6". 3.2" blower pulley (I'm NOT into rev'ing to 6500rpm with blower, I want to be done by 5800-6000rpm MAX)
4)Money - I'm ALL for 50% deposit (paypal), however I will not pay 100% up front. I realize the concerns you have but I don't want visions of INCON either.

I am also interested in the 8 rib set up. I would send you my crank pulley but I am still waiting on my f-ing kit to get here
Maybe Michael(Black LS1 T/A) can send you one of his, looks like he has two there
Let us know when or if you get the crank pulley made up. I think the 7.5 crank pulley is a good idea too.
Keep us posted,
J

Hey JAS. What will the 7.5" crank pulley do for you? Just wondering. I'm also not a fan of reving to 6500 RPMs and I would like my boost to come on earlier so I can have a lower rev limit. I'm running the 3.2" pulley and I see 8-9psi at about 6K.

Camarogod98 if you get all these details figured out I'd be interested in an 8 rib setup with maybe a 3" SC pulley. I'd like to be at about 10psi at 6000 RPMs. That way I could shift around 5800 and it would be all good. If the 3" gave me more than 10psi at 6K I guess I'd just have to lower the rev limit more. Dont need to blow my motor anytime soon. Its very cool that you're able to make these parts. $90 for a pulley is insane!

I guess i can see your point about the 50% down deal i can accept that for custom stuff.

Ive decided to scrap the steel pulley ideas because they would be to heavy and I dont want to spend alot of time on drilling holes on exact position to keep them in balance, It would just cost to much to do it like that.

You guys should decide about crank pulley diameter for the 8rib setup and get atleast three guys together to place an order with me. I need atleast three orders because Im going to have alot of time in programming and setup unless your willing to pay 350 for one setup.

I just got the 7psi pulley on my car that i made and it works and looks as good as the ati one and it didnt cost me 90 bucks! now i can spend that 90 bucks on some hot *****!LOL being 21 and single kicks ***!

Production on the steel idlers will start tomorrow. They will be ready to shipby the this friday.

ATI kind of sucks, I mean there product is pretty good but Its really expensive and they take forever to ship there kits out. 4 and a half weeks is way to long to get a kit.

hey frcefed98, I think it would be cool if you could send me your crank pulley when you get the kit. I just got mine last month and it took them four and a half weeks from order to delivery via two day fedex so you should get an idea when you can expect it. It will only take me a couple of days to measure it and design the 8rib setup, then ill ship it back to you. Im doing all this stuff im my spare time so thats why it might take a little while. blackls1t/a's pulley is to messed up to measure. A new one would be ideal because i need to check it to see what kind of concentricty tolerance i have to hold.

BlackLS1T/A,
how much did ati charge you for the new crank pulley and also the idler? I will have pictures of the idlers buy friday for you to inspect. I just need to figure out were i can host the pictures on the net easily.

I want to know what the point is for having a 7.5" crank pulley. ?????? Is it for more belt contact area? Or is this for spinning the blower faster? My guess would be to spin the blower faster but I think they would both be benefits.

I want one of these kits when you make them.
8 rib system, 7.5" crank, 3.0" pulley, & steel idler. Where the heck do we get the proper belt?

Guys, I don't have time right now, but will explain why I want a 7.5" crank later this evening.

3.2" is the MAX blower size with a 7.5" crank.

I have no problem sending you my crank pulley, BUT I have been waiting for my kit since 8-20-02
Seems the company who I ordered the kit from can't pay ATI for the kit I ordered, shi++y thing is my credit card was charged on 8-20
I will be hearing something on my kit come tomorrow(monday) I will keep you posted tho.

As for the steel pulley for the headunits the weight diff is not that big a deal in my book. I had a custom steel pulley made by Automotive specialties and the difference in weight is worth the extra strength and excellent wear capabilities that steel provides. It's better than my aluminum pulley could muster, after 3 yrs. my old aluminum Powerdyne pulley has considerable wear in the belt path area. Just my .02
