Default STS 607RWHP 11.01 ET... and a #7 Piston

Hey all... well those of you that have been following my setup, and cheered me on or quietly waited to see me blow her up:

Went to a shitty track on friday night (TAD) and ran her at 10lbs. 98% humidity... ran 4 different 11.1 runs and one 11.01 run with a 1.54 60'.

As I was getting ready to leave, car started to smoke some with a sweet smell (radiator fluid) comming from the exhaust. On her way home she started throwing a #7 misfire code, and temp started raising fast... So it looks like I cooked the stock block and burnt up my #7

Well so for those of you keeping tabs... that is a good mark on the wall. Was running pure 104 Unlead at 10.5 lbs. Trapping 125MPH.... and my stock block gave way.

Oh well.. now I gotta figure out what is next for her...

Oh man. Sucks to hear that, but you were planning on upgrading anyways. Just sucks when you can't drive it.

Damn. Hey. I'm on Yahoo right now man. Give me a look-up.

Look at the bright side now... You have an excuse to get a new forged short block

I feel your pain brother. I just threw a rod about 2 weeks ago. The shitty part of it all was I only had my new heads and cam installed for about 2 months. Now I'm in the process of building a 408.

Sorry to hear. Great times for a 6-speed car, STS or not!

I'm sure you got something planned for what's next.

Anyway, how many miles did you have on the stock motor, and how many miles did you have on the STS?

To bad she didn’t brake into the 10's first. Sorry, RUN into the 10's.
Must have been fun as **** while it lasted.

I hate reading about this.
Ive been watching your progress.

Now you know why I’m sticking with 8lbs and just under 600rw and have not gone to the track yet. I don’t have the cash for the forged short block yet and that would put me on jack stands for a long time.
Good luck with the rebuild. I can’t wait to rebuild mine.
Do you have a plan for the new one yet, alum or iron, do more cubes or keep 347 ect.?
Nice 60ft. were you running drag radials?

man, sorry to hear about your luck with your engine. Now its time to go Forged....just think of it that way.

As I always say..."If it broke, it wasn't high performance enough".

Default My debate...

Well $ wise I was not really ready for this.... but oh well. "Cant afford the sport... dont play the game."

Now I am trying to figure out what is next... My goals are to see the solid 9's. I wouldnt be mad about being the fastest rear-mount setup in the nation. (a man has to have goals)

The hard one now is trying to figure out what is best for the motor replacement. I have been reading allot of opinion and experience. I am concerned with the issue of having a 408 up front but not being able to put a large enough turbo in the back to capatilize on it. I have spoken to Jose about turbo selection... and would love to have other input as well. I am torn between higher cubes... and higher RPM's.

If you have looked at my Dyno.. I think with a 370 that could spin 7k rpm safely... I could see 700RWHP with no prob with my existing setup... let alone with a bigger turbo.

What could I do with a 408 with a Gt-42 76? I would love to see 900RWHP... will STS piping handle it? Hmmmm I am just thinking out loud here fellas...

Jared: Sorry to hear that. That was a 10 second run. Given the crappy track conditions. In SAR you would have been well into the 10s. Well just another excuse to run 15 psi on your next set up.

Yea true.. that is why I backed off a pound and a half, and ran pure 104 unleaded. This was supposed to be a "Very safe" tune by Sean at Fastech. Oh well... On to the next project.

sorry to hear about the motor longrange. Great 60' though, its almost .50 better than my best one LOL.

Do you have a wideband in the car, i'd like to know what the a/f was in 4th under full boost. For FI cars I tune them 11.0.

The longevity of the motor depends on the tune. When you rebuild it and have it retuned, make sure it's tuned to 11.0. Changing the fueling setup withe a dual feed rail system is an even better idea for more consistant fuel delivery and what i'm doing on my car.

Sure you did not just lift a head? Are you running stock head studs?

that sucks man ...At least you put down some impressive power and e/ts b4 you broke. How much timing were you running?air/fuel? I am afraid of blowing my motor as well thats why I have a forged 346 waiting for installation. good luck on your next motor

stay with small cubes. u can still make big hp on smaller cubes, and this way, you can still use the existing turbo efficiently

I like the iron 396 HPE can built with custom lower ringed pistons from Wiesco. It has a 3.9 Eagle crank with callies rods. It is bascially the same setup they use on the 370 iron with 20cc pistons which will give u around 8.1-8.3 with 71cc heads or 8.7 C/R with 3.9 crank and 71cc heads. Im getting one soon for my car because i think it is losing some Compression. Good luck man.

John: she was running ok at first with some sweet smelling smoke from the exaust (I was thinking head gasket)... then however she started throwing #7 misfire codes, and engine temp started climbing fast. I shut her down and had her towed.

The #7 misfire codes is what has me thinking I lifted a ring... or broke my #7

What would your friend reccomend for an engine?

LSsone: I will look into that one...

Turbo: Was thinking of staying in the middle.... ~370 for cube and higher RPM capability.

Longrange, sorry to hear of your problems... were you still running the 42 lb. injectors in your sig?

I'm thinking that there's no "safe tune" if your injectors are physically incapable of delivering the fuel required.
