408 to 1k hp
408 to 1k hp how easy is it to get a 408 to 1000+ hp to the ground? i hear them getting pretty close. im just curios, i love these engines and what they are capable of

1000rwhp and easy should never be used in the same sentence. Your gonna need ALOT of money, and better have the patience to fix stuff when it breaks, and more money on top of that to fix the broken stuff. A big turbo... around, 88+mm trim, and alot of fuel. Your gonna need alot of time off for tuning.... and more tuning....... and... more tuning.

Ya u really have to go ***** to teh wall when u wanna make that kinda power. Its sickening. I spent nearly 12k to get my Camaro to around 600 dailydriven on teh stock short block with a 12 bolt out back and now i had to spend about 15 more to get it ready for alot more power. Its crazy.
Ya u would get a 408, t-88 turbo kit, impedeance converter 96lbs injectors a clutch and some sort of tuning program and see how long it takes to twish teh car in half and break the rear and blow up teh tranny. But what fun is that havin a car that is broken 99% of the time. GL man

IMO. If you "think" that it is "easy" to get to 1,000rwhp, you are kidding yourself. Add up the cost (turbo set-up, motor, drive train). OK now you get to 1Krwhp. What are you going to do with it? Based on previous dyno runs, 14lbs got us 853, for every lb of boost the SS was gaining about 40-45hp. So, 3lbs boost times 45 = 135hp + 853 comes to 988 at 17lbs of boost. The twin 67's can go up to 23-24lbs on my present system. SO, 8X45=360 + the base of 853 = 1213rwhp. NO WAY the SS' drive train (or me) could actually handle this much power.
Easy NO WAY.

Ok... getting 1k HP with an endless bank account is easy. Doing on any kind of budget is going to be very limiting. Fueling alone for my car is already costing me big bucks, and this is the second time I have redone it. Built motor, heads, cam, bsically a nice longblock depending on cubes will be anywhere from $6k-$12k. And there is still a lot of stuff left to get.
I feel pretty certain I will surpass the 1k HP mark by the time Stenod gets done with the car. But it certainly won't be easy, especially being a college student in my final semester.

With a very large pocket book it's quite doable. I would say it's "easy" in this sense: you could more than likely sit down with a builder and come up with a build that's able to make that power on the first try (not the first pull, but the first build)... tuning it and putting it down are different stories. :o
There's a difference here though. Do you want a car that will dyno 1k+ hp or one that can actually run quickly down the track?
Prime example, his car is a straight up dyno queen. I'm not trying to knock him because his car's awesome, but he just recently got a 12 bolt which he's now selling and it doesn't have a cage. Yeah he does make over 1K+ hp, but only runs in the 11s (last I saw). Not to mention I'd be afraid to even get near that thing when he floors it for fear of the raer exploding.
Compare this to Navy David's car or MM. MM ran 9s with a six speed and Navy David is close to cracking 8s. MM just barely cracked 1k and Navy David already said his numbers. NA$TY-TA makes 842, but runs bottom nines.

you may want to delete your post, tiago's car is more than capable of running better times, he just couldn't hook it. It certainly isn't a dyno queen.
who cares how much a car makes on a dyno that is just for tuning purposes..
I'd rather have a car that mph's in the 160's than brag about a stupid number.
I'm sure most people with 600-650 rear wheel will attest to say that's pretty fast for a street car (low 10 capable with traction). 7-750 is wicked and anything above that on the street is insane. i'd be plenty happy with 800-850 rear wheel.

Again, I like his car for what it does. It's just obvious that makes the power, but it doesn't run the times. It's obvious that it's a street oriented car. I wouldn't consider it a street car, but we all have different descriptions of what we define a street car as. It's obvious to me and I'm sure many others that he's a roll racer who goes out and races supras all the time, period. That's what the car is built for and it does a great job doing it, but we could also apply the old what's the similarity between a 400 and 800 horsepower supra? They both run 11s.
What's the difference between an 1000 hp f body and a 875 hp f body? The 875 hp f body runs bottom 9s and the 1000 hp one runs 11s.
I'm just saying that we don't need to get hung up on dyno numbers. There so many other factors that get taken into account in any type of race, roll or track. You can talk 1k hp this and that, but if your car can't hook till 80mph what good is it?
