does anyone have any idea what exact model number & make from Garrett the STS T04E 60-1 60mm turbo from STS is?

I'm trying to do some turbo digging and research and also get my housing ceramic coated just as Zombie has...gotta talk with him too

ok , i looked on Garretts website, and didn't turn up anything... all I see is their GT series.

I googled the TO4E 60 trim .81 A/R ratio ; and I came up with a compressor map...but my car was a good bit on its way out of that map...I reckon I need to call one of the turbo people and have a chat.

I went through and calculated all of my numbers to plot, and I need to spend some more time going through the GT series compressor maps @ garrett. This is going to be a learning experience...

and Guys / Gals ... HPC that does STS coatings for their cold side pipes... will coat your hot side turbos for somewhere between $120-150 * PRICE IS COATING ONLY & DEPENDS ON TYPE OF COATING YOU WANT, no shipping yadda yadda.

So I'm going to get mine ceramic coated from them and see whether I like it or not, which according to several people up here getting it ceramic coated will greatly benefit the spool time and holding heat in.

This way it also avoids the "cold water in blanket all of a sudden gets hot" syndrome

What I'm trying to say is that the ceramic coating isn't expensive at all, even including shipping there and back. and actually HPC is here in NC (where I am) and I drive back and forth about every 2 months or so right by them and didn't know it. I drive from Charlotte, NC to Wilson, NC and they are right in Whitsett, NC off I85/I-40 Exit 138.

STS has no idea about "my" compressor map. The only thing that I have been able to find out after calling several places/resources and asking the hell out of them was that:

T04E 60-1 60mm .81A/R Garrett turbo.
630HP @ 15PSI @ 63LB/MIN

HOWEVER, this goes along with the 10LB/Min per 10HP.....

as 630HP divided by 10 = 63 .....

According to Garrets Turbo Tech 101,102,103:
~69HP = 10LB/Min Airflow
*Yes i know there are a lot of variables, but I have set everything up to "my" conditions.

SO... I think I'm going to run out of airflow before I hit 500HP from this turbo.... I'm going to step it up to an 8.7psi spring, which should land me somewhere in the LOW 7psi range actual (At manifold) and we will just see what she makes.

Garrett says use your TARGET FLYWHEEL(CRANK) HP... Using all the equations from Garrett:

WELL, here is my data:
I made :
423 RWHP @ 5500 RPM & this was at 5psi to the teee
431 RWTQ @ 4000 RPM

423 REAR WHEEL HP
15% Losses = 486 CRANK HP
Atmospheric pressure assumed to be 14.56

BSFC = 0.63 (divide by 60 to get per minute)
AFR=12 (thats what i'm running)
And with that I get:
61.3LB/MIN airflow
**IF my BSFC goes to 0.6 ; I get 58 LB/MIN

HOWEVER, with Garretts MAP required to make the HP:
Engine Volumetric Effic= 0.94 (percentage)
Intake temp = 105
Gas Constant = 639.6
Previous Airflow 61.3 LB/MIN
RPM MAX = 6200
Engine Displacement = 345.678

I get 20.94 PSIA, subtract 14.56 from earlier , I get =
6.38PSIG ......

I do understand that this is all in the "numbers" and in theory versus the real world...but when my 60mm turbo runs out of lb/min airflow , its simply going to not flow any more air.

anyone want to chime in some change?? LOL.

The airflow I would be flowing to make 505HP is in the HIGH 60LB/Min mark w/ a pressure ratio of 1.96 and boost required of 9.9PSIG

according to that and garrets compressor maps I need a large frame turbo and so far I see this one (i haven't looked at them ALL yet): and even on this one, I'm so far towards the CHOKE LINE that I don't think its for me
GT4094R - 751470-19
http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...94R_Comp_e.jpg

someone help.... i'm losing my brain in these numbers, and this theory VERSUS real world.

problem is that was on a 408... that thing moves more air... I'm afraid a 76mm would have horrendous lag on my car.

now a 70mm I don't think would be bad.....and if its a split turbine design then I could use zombies new method on here.

Does anyone know off hand turbos from Turbonetics, Garrett, Borg Warner or any other manufacturer that flows somewhere around 65-75LB/Min of air ?

I'm just posting this to help gather info, as I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here. I'm looking for a 67mm to a 70mm sized turbo.
My car needs somewhere between : *This is all at 500Ft above sea level, 14.5PSIA

11.5 AFR 500RWHP 68LB/MIN Air 1.84 P-R 8PSI

11.5AFR 510RWHP 69LB/MIN Air 1.87 P-R 8.4PSI

So I'm figuring 65-74LB/MIN air flow & 1.8-1.95 Pressure Ratio

All of the brands you listed in that size range will flow that amount of air. The Tnetics is the smallest packaged one for the punch though.

I'll be honest with you the TC70 would be the best out of those. One main reason is they are a simple bolt on. The BW based units are not...

Installed ls6 valley cover w/new breathing system & removed STS front breather/switch. pump is running on full the entire time and it is a Turbowerx Exa Pump. awesome quiet pump.

Testing all this here in the next few days.

Default Some small issues.....

WELL DANGIT!!!

In checking the car out.... I have a worn out gasket. Mind you it is the STOCK Kooks Headers gasket, it has been on there a while.

It seems to be a basic gasket. So Now I'm replacing it with a High temp Fel Pro gasket for now.

does anyone know of a better gasket that is ok for high temp/pressure (up to 15psi) and will hold up? what are other turbo people using.

Nice setup. 420-430 would have been achievable with budget heads/cam and probably a lot cheaper too.

Remflex are nice gaskets but once you put them on they kinda stick to the head and are kinda a pita to get off. but should be the last set of gaskets you will ever need. They arent reusable though one time use everytime ive used them.
