In my opinion Methanol is a fuel not a power adder no different than running race gas...

But if you are talking about an organized racing series they are can call it what ever they want.

not unless a intercooler or race fuel are also considered power adders

The question is being asked due to new rules in the EFI class at our local track.

one of the new rules is only one power adder.

this is still under review.

No, meth is not a power adder. A power adder would do just that, add power. A blower, turbo, nitrous kit, etc. is a power adder. Meth is just a fuel and will not add power on its own.

Thats like asking if increased compression or race fuel is a power adder.

they may not consider it a power adder, but they may make a rule saying that on;y one power adder is allowed and it is prohibited to spray anything into the intake tract other than nitrous... like they have in PSCA limited Street.

Meth is the poor man's substitute for running race gas (all the time).

I say no because all that it does is lower the IAT's and raise octane... Now if you have an environment that will increase in power due to the conditions then yes it does increase power but meth will not ALWAYS increase power... People USUALLY use it for forced induction but I've also heard of using it with high heat, high compression, racing applications but it basically only allows more timing to be ran... Not as much benefit as a FI app...

Although the cooling abilities of meth can add power, i wouldn't consider it a power adder

I bet the cooling properties of Meth would add power to most FI applications.

With that said I believe it's a fuel and no different than running race gas.

No it isn't, because increasing compression actually adds power. Adding meth does not.

It's more like saying that switching from 87 to 93 octane is a power adder.

we might be seeing this rule change in my neck of the woods this season, and it pisses me off since i'm the only one who uses alky injection in my class!

i'm yet to hear anyon ewho could convince me otherwise.

A rich man can have 55 gallon drums of race fuel delivered to his house

I was referring to class racing rules, not actual engine performance. They wouldn't classify high compression as a power adder.

Drewstein, adding meth with no other changes usually will not make more power as it will make the tune richer, which makes less power. I have seen a few guys pick up 10 RWHP or so with just meth on their existing setup, but I wouldn't consider that much of a gain on a 600-800 HP application.

A smart man would contact his local fire department before doing that, as they frown upon that and if your house were to catch fire, they will watch it burn because of the risk of explosion. Your homeowners policy probably also mentions it being prohibited.

I have a barrel of meth (anyone nearby is welcome to have some for their alky kit, just PM me) in my shop, I only keep a gallon or so at my house.
