the stuff with the mesh on the inside can come apart under high heat/pressure conditions and that stuff will tear a turbine a new one

I just bought a piece of that stuff (with interlock). I was advised to put V bands on the ends and replace it frequently, which I intend to do.

wondering if you could just take the stainless steel weave out of the inside of the flex coupler before it removes itself ?

It takes ~30 seconds to pull it out... pretty easy. I had one customer of mine have the internal braiding expand on the inside and cause a bottle neck.
