Cool! I'll be doing this, hopefully next week. Where did you get the fuel sock/strainer from?

The dealership wants $40 bucks for it and I heard it's only about $5 or $6 from a parts store. But, they are not stocked according to my car. What fuel sock for what car is the substitute?

Thanks!

The strainer came with the install kit from Ramchargers.

There is plenty of clearance, but you just have to be careful. I used an air die grinder with a 3" cutoff wheel on it. I helped a buddy do the same to his and we used an electric dremel with a small cutoff wheel.

I used sheet metal shears. I was a bit leary of sparks flying in the vacinity of gas. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

It literally takes minutes, now, to get to the pump.

I just dropped mine, I thought about cutting a hole, but didnt. Does the pump come out pretty easy? It seems like you would not have enough slack in the hoses to get it out without some serious maneuvering....??

It just takes a bit of manuevering to get the sender out. Actually you don't go through as many disks as you would think. When I cut the hole, the sender is still securely fastened, so there are no fumes or anything. It takes more than you think to start a fire.

just did mine last nite, cut the hole with a dremel and some cutting discs. sparks everywhere but the sender unit is airtight to the tank to begin with so there's no hazard, and your fuel tanks isn't paper thin(for those of you with plastic tanks, i have the lovely steel version). wasn't too bad, i totally disconnected the fuel lines that hooked up the sender unit, and then wedged it out, it came out MUCH easier that way. wasn't enough clearance under the sheet metal with the lines to maneuver them. after that its a cinch. highly recommended over the whole dropping the tank idea, too much of a hassle.

good luck to ya!

It would be easier for you to pull the tank, as you have a plastic tank with the bendable filler neck. Although, I believe you will have to do some modifications to the sender assembly to get the pump to fit since the 99-up assemblies are different than 98. I've never done one on a 99-up, so I can't be of much help.

I just ordered one of these from Ramchargers today. Thanks for posting this up it will be very helpful. What year is your F-Body? Any difficulties or special mods needed to get the 340 installed?

How hard is it to drop the tank? What all is involved? I'm debating on how difficult it would be to keep from cutting up my trunk <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

Thanks bro, your timing is impecable <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Actually I think it is pretty pimp. I like 30 min FP changes if needed. Mine isn't the best looking, when I helped a buddy do his, his looked much better, we used plumber sealer and self tapping screws. But who cares? No one ever lifts up your carpet and looks anyway. If I had the determination I would have used different metal and had it painted white, but that's more work and money than I wanna put out for something no one sees.

I cut the trunk. It's hidden, so who cares?

It took about 45 minutes. Show me THAT when you drop the tank. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />

The assembly was easy. just pull the top and bottom of the resevoir apart, pop out the stocker, split the screwy looking jet pump on the bottom and pull out the remains, drop in the new pump, splice, reinstall.

I just used a small piece of sheet metal and some window sealant (what was on hand) with eight zips screws.

Now I can replace, modify, or ADD any time I want in 30 minutes or less.

You guys are totally tempting me to do this with my racetronix setup.....hmmmm.

I was thinking of having a nice piece of sheet aluminum put on a hinge, with a locking mechanism. I need to talk to the guy that put in my cage....he is the BEST at sheetmetal work. He rolled flames onto another one of my car buddies Pro Street Camaro interior work.

Oh the wheels are turning! A sealed access hatch made from a sheet of aluminium with rolled edges and instant access to my fuel pump <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

It IS danged convenient.

When my Walbro came in, it didn't take me fifteen minutes to get the pump out. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I got in my GSS340 tonight and Jebus Christ it's a lot smaller than I was anticipating. I thought that whole mess that you guys have been showing me pictures of was getting replaced, but aparently the pump is just a small cylinder within that rats nest. What modifications need to be done to a 2000 gas tank to get this bad boy in?

Thanks,
BH
