Who cares unless you have a dyno queen, put one in, put on some slicks and have fun.
You won't need a towtruck to get home.

I am just trying to figure how much I am going to loose with my steel drive shaft and a 9 inch. If it is a signifigant loss then I will see what I can do inside the F**d 9 inch to mabe get a few ponies back.

Knowlede is power.

I am curious as well, I have the same set up (9" steel ds) and I went with a lightened ring gear and a lightened locker to make up for a little bit. It is going in the car on friday. I am not too worried about it though cause the nine " will definately handle the power.

According to this article, the 9" uses 2-3% more power than a 12 bolt.

So if you were making 400rwhp with a 12 bolt, that would be a 8-12rwhp loss. I'm sure its more when compared to a 10 bolt. Seams a little high to me but just going with what the article states. I'm kind of wishing I went with a 9" than my Moser 12 bolt. Much cheaper and stronger.

with a 9" ,you can build extra 3rd members with different gears and change them at the track in about 45 mins. I have a 9" in my S10 and I love it ! the extra weight helps out with traction too.

Just installed mine last night. Going to put the finishing touches on her in a few minutes. I have been planning on building an aluminum 3rd member with a spool and a little less gear for the spray just for the track.

The 9" is cheaper? I looked at a few vendors, and the 9" is more $. True, it is much stronger. Also, won't you have to inop your ABS?

How is your Moser holding up? Any issues with breakage or noise?

I had seen some before/after dyno numbers and it looked like it ate up about 10rwhp.

But you never break it, that's what I have had for four years.

My last 9 inch ate 27 rwhp. Switched it over to a buddies car, it ate 29 rwhp. That was with a locker, and 31 spline axles, with 4.30 gears.

Yes, you can build a 9" cheaper if you don't get all from Moser. Someone here just built one for under $1500. He got the Housing, shafts and TCS stuff from Moser for around $1100 then he found a 3rd member with gears/locker on ebay for $375. Total = $1475. I've actually seen the 3rd members on ebay go for less so it might even be cheaper. The only thing I've heard is they don't have a 3 channel (ABS only) option but do make the 4 channel (TCS/ABS) option for the 9".
