I just bought a 2000 T/A WS6. I'm alittle confused now if its a true WS6 cause when I did 2 burnouts earlier, when I laid the streaks, I went back and only found that there was 1 burn-line. could this be a problem with the differntials? or maybe not a true ws6? It has the spoiler, hood of a WS6, M6, LS1. it doesn't have the WS6 badge on the rear though
. my ABSINOP light is on and so is my BRAKE light. no "check engine light" though.
so if anybody knows any other ways to tell if its a true WS6 please do.
or what kind of a problem would make only 1 tire spin?
how would I know if the differnital is broken?
thanks in advance...

99 and up have Torsen diffs that only have a 2:1 torque bias. So both tires won't always spin depending on the traction difference between the tires.

ABSINOP and BRAKE is probably on because you have a bad wheel sensor on one of the corners which disables the ABS and traction control.
The way you tell if it's a real WS6 is that an RPO code of "WS6" should be on the sticker on the inside of the driver's door. If there is no WS6 it's a fake.

That wouldnt cause a one tire fire only would it, unless the posi unit itself is bad? I just swapped my rear (2000 T/A) for a rear that came out of a 98 WS6. Before my old rear took a dump my burnout marks would lay down two significant strips, but one was always a bit darker, but certainly noticeable. Im still a relative newb with this, but it just doesnt seem to make sense to put a posi unit in an LS1 that acts like an open differential given everything is working properly.
BTW what differential came in the 98s?

Yes occasional one wheel peels can happen. You have 2x the torque to one wheel versus the other. If the wheel on the 1 side of the 2:1 ratio has a lot of friction with the ground, the freer wheel with double the torque will spin away. My old 99 V6 Camaro did this, most of the time both tires would spin, but once in a while only 1 would go. Of course, this happened beyond 50-60,000 miles when the unit was getting more worn, which probably makes the torque biasing even worse. But, if it's only spinning one wheel all the time most likely those torsen gears are worn or stripped and the posi is indeed toast.

98's had the Auburn style posi with the traditional clutch pack arrangement with cones. 99+ came with the Torsen units which use small gears to torque bias.

All V8 4th gens had posi. If you are leaving one black mark you have a bad posi, period. My torsen has not ever failed to go sideways in a corner or going straight while spinning the tires. It has NEVER left nothing but equal black marks. Good luck

ok tried to lay another streak today and my buddy confirmed that only the right wheel spun. I honestly think I have a bad posi...what part do i need to buy to look into getting this replaced? a differntial or something? I'm almost certain, it lays 1 streak everytime and its a confirmed WS6.
thanks.
thanks.

I really feel like my posi is broke, still can't lay 2 streaks. Should I change the fluid and see or try to find a used Differntial? I'd really like to get both wheels going as I'm about ready for my first track pass.
