yeah i hate 10 bolts.... my car has been sitting for almost 2 months now because of a weak *** 10 bolt. But i live in Michigan now (was in San Diego the last 6 years)so i gotta put the car up for winter anyway, Gonna be ordering a MWC fabbed 9" around February so i can have it by the time it starts getting warm again.

couple years back my wife had a blazer with the 7.5 she put it in drive while rolling backwards about 1mph and it snapped the some teeth off the pinion, what was ironic at the time was I had been beating the hell out of mine for a couple years with no probs, it also soon broke when I hit second. but man that really is a shame, it would be neat if someone at gm would reveal what went into the thought process of putting their weakest rearend ever into some of the quickest cars they had ever built.

One of the main reasons the 10b is weak is because the HOUSING is weak (not to mention the guts.)
When you dump it from a dig with sticky tires, the housing has a tendency to flex toward the front of the vehicle which actually tightens the clearances between the ring and pinion = kablooey... "Pivots" at the housing, axle tubes move forward. (IIRC)
As far as GM goes, I'm not sure exactly WHY the Fox Stang 7.5's are so much stronger than ours. My buddy has been beating the SNOT outta his 88GT for years now and no rear troubles. Every time I see him he's buying new tires. That's two things we got shorted on. Rear and brakes. I'm really not fond of my stock brakes even with pads, lines and rotors.

I got a 10 bolt with 140000 miles on it and welded axle tubes and still able to spray 200 shot out of the hole with a 1.45 60 ft thanx to wolfe race craft drag suspension.I dont spec it to run forever but its still going strong.knock on wood.

Lots of Ford cars and trucks got 8.8s from Explorers to Town Cars.
