The G Body rear is completely different from the F Body rear. G-body rears 7.5" or 8.5" are 52.5 in. backing plate to backing plate, and do not use a torque arm. You might get lucky and find a 8.5" rear from a wrecked 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal/Grand National, 1984-1987 Oldsmobile 442 or 1984 Hurst/Olds. As far as I know all the other G Body models had either a 7.5" or a 7.62 (Monte Carlo SS) Bob

the 7.5 housing internals will swap over, but be sure the axle spline count is the same. the earlier ones were 26 spline, the later ones were 28. as far as the rearend housing itself... no way will any f-body housing made(69-02) will work. you need a 4-link coil-spring type rearend, not a torque arm like the f-body has.

Yes buy a rear for another G-body or rebuild the one you have.

New gears, bearings, shop around you can find a rebuild kit, also look around for a whole housing out of a car.

If yours has the 10 bolt, which it most likely does I would be looking for an 8.5 inch out of a GN or turbo regal like he said. They are very strong units, nice upgrade & bolts right up.
