Default SURVEY: How is your Quick Performance 9" Holding Up?

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to do a quick query and see how the QP 9" running crowd is doing with their rear ends. Talking about this rear on my local forum, there seems to be a decent amount of hearsay about this rear having problems, with nobody actually saying what the problems are.

I specifically want to know the following:

Purchase date
Rear end specs
Who built your center section?
Any installation problems?
Current mileage
Horsepower behind it
Transmission type
Any problems since install?

If you'd be so kind to respond, I ask that you PLEASE stick to the questions asked. I don't want this to turn into a QP vs MWC crapfest that plagues all of the other QP threads I've read on here. No hearsay either please. If you don't have a QP rear, please don't post.

Thanks in advance!

Purchase date: 02-25-09
Rear end specs: Stock Width, Spohn LCA Relocation Brackets, Strange 'S' Case, Detroit Locker, 3.89 Gears, QP Billet Yoke
Who built your center section?: I Did
Any installation problems?: The Spohn torque arm needed modifications to fit well
Current mileage: Unknown, over 100 track passes
Horsepower behind it: 550+
Transmission type: T56
Any problems since install?: Blew out a axle bearing seal on passenger side. Not QP's fault considering the cheap chinese made bearing came with the Moser Axles that were drop shipped directly from Moser...

Additional Info: I sold the original QP rearend in 2010, and bought another QP housing and 35sp axles. The new one is narrowed 3" on each side. Running the same center I had before except with 4.30 gears and a QP spool. No problems with this one to speak of.

I have over 3 k miles on mine
Narrowed 2.5" each side. Strange s center , 35 spline spool, 4.30 gears, moser axles. I love it. Has very very miner whine I mean u have to get it just right to hear it and u have to be looking for it to hear it. Mine I had to drill bigger holes for shocks and phb. For $2,000 shipped u can't beat it.

Ive had my QP for about 2 years now, moser center sectionNo complaints, on install I had to ding a few spots to make a lil room for my torque arm, QP uses a mount with heim joints, although this could be due to my aftermarket torque arm. I had it built to use my stock brakes. it has never given me any trouble, and that was behind a six speed dumping the clutch at 5500. Engine back then was making 463RWHP.

My car is lowered with no bump stops so I have to hammer some stuff too. If I had some good shocks and not 130,000 mile stock shocks it may not of hit.

Oh another thing they don't send it with the t bolts for the backing plates. They send Allen head bolts and u have to grind down one side of the head of the bolt to fit. They were also a little short for my taste. Couldn't fit any washers on it. Also I'm having trouble getting the axle tubes to seal. What did y'all do? I know all 9" have this problem I've seen it on me and moser and strange do the same thing.

When I replaced the axle bearing on mine, the guy at NAPA recomended adding a separate axle seal from a mid 70's Ford truck or van. Can't remember the part number but it installed just inside of where the bearing rides and relieves some of the internal pressure on the bearing seals. I also used a small amount of black RTV around the outside of the bearing before installing the axle. Haven't had any leaking issues since.

Yeah found the part #. Going to pull it out and add it in the tube. Just rtv wouldn't work I tried that twice so I'm sure the seal will fix it.

got the part# from QP, they said a National brand seal#51098 will work, i also asked QP about the extra movement in the rearend and he said he hasn't had any reports of anyone having any issues, he said the only cars that might have a problem is like a 1,000 hp turbo car, but he said they do make a kit that has solid rod ends and a couple mounts that you weld in to eliminate any side to side movement. my rear end came with the t bolts instead of the allen heads to mount the backing plates

Im liking this option rather then the 8.8 build. Can you guys share the over all price at the end what it cost you to piece the qp 9 rear together?

i was under $2,000, that was including me buying a UMI adjustable torque arm used for $300, and a new ring and pinion for $135, i got the complete center section for $50..that was really cheap, but i rebuilt that for $80, got a full 31 spline spool for $115, a 1350 series yoke for $85, the housing and axle package from quick performance was $1065 shipped( word of advise if you buy it on ebay you get the adjustable lower control arm brackets for free) atleast that is what they told me, it was a $30 option or something like that. and 3 quarts of advance auto parts part synthetic oil for $21, and i got 2 inner axle seals national part# 51098 for $17, and i had to get a conversion u joint to make work, u can get that at napa for $25 i believe the part number is a 447
