Gear questions?
i have an M6 with 3:42's right now and was thinking about 3.73's or 4.10's
i need to know the pros and cons of changing out the gears? IE. gas mileage, traction, Top end, and cruising. is my rpm's going to be alot higher when im cruising down the parkway at 75 mph? thanks alot --steve--

Not true, the gears are the same thickness. The only difference between 3.42s and 4.10s in the pinion gear has less teeth, making the pinion gear itself smaller. The ring gear has the same number of gears. In fact the ring gear itself is a thicker unit in a 4.10 setup since it needs to make up the space for the smaller pinion gear. Typically the pinion gear will break first since it is smaller.
With that said, I've had my 4.10s in my stock 10bolt for over 7 months now without incident. They are a GREAT gear for an M6 car. IMHO, M6s should have come with this gear from the factory, especially with stock power. It is absolutely fine for highway driving also. I only run street tires on my car, so I am not worried about breaking anything... If you plan on running sticky tires, save for a 12-bolt.
