Holy ****..do not burn 1/3 of that on the 10 bolt. You could get a rear end girdle for looks.
Since your an auto your 10 bolt will hold up just fine until you have enough for a 12/9 rear.

Well i'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to the 10 bolt (I just got the car and am new to the LS world) but the previous owner had a Detroit Truetrack thrown in mine. It's held up just fine at several 11.7 second 1/4 mile passes on drag radials, and has been doing so for like 7 years now. Mine is a manual on top of all that

seriously if you have 1000 saved just keep going. run the stock 10 bolt till it goes. Even if you stick money into it you really dont gain much over a stock setup anyway.
The only time I would advise spending money on a 10 bolt is if you have 2.73 gears, then its just a gear swap and solid pinion spacer, nothing more. That is what I have 2.73 swapped to 4.10s and a solid spacer, i have cut about 10 low 1.6x 60's and it whines ALOT, wont last very long now, you wont have issues with yours if you are easy on it

Auburn posi is not rebuildable. Last fall the posi in my 10 bolt started the one tire spin too. That was the last straw for me as I had put close to $700 in it a couple years earlier. Before I pulled the plug I was looking at a Truetrac for it as they don't have clutches or cones to wear out. If you are determined to spend on the 10 bolt, spend as little as possible. There's a guy on here named therabidweasle that has a low milage SLP Auburn posi he was wanting to sell. Look him up.

Mods worthwhile on a 10 bolt:
-Using a Ratech solid spacer instead of the crush sleeve
-Differential girdle
That's really about it, some people weld the axle tubes and some other nonsense but the gearing itself is what breaks most of the time. Try and eliminate any misalignment/deflection under load and these rear ends can take a pretty good beating. I have 4.10s in my 10 bolt and have pulled multiple 1.8 60s (which are pretty good for a T-56 car without launching at an insane RPM and side stepping the clutch). If you are taking the rear end apart I would do those two mods and you would probably be fine with that rear end setup for the life of the car to be honest. A local out here with a 4000 stall/3.73 gear setup has pulled MANY (for years) 1.5 60s on his 10 bolt and just recently it has started giving him issues.

If your are building something with an intention of racing you should never go c clip axles imo. 3 wheeling into a wall is not a possibility im interested in. Thus, if you go 12 bolt, and you really shouldnt unless you get a deal, eliminate the c clips. Its a shameful shitty design.
That said, my tuner has a blown all bore 383 stroker making 690whp, 6 speed, and has been running a 10 bolt with it since 03 I think. The guy is nuttier than squirrel poop imo, but his car hauls serious ***.

The single best mod for a 10 bolt is a complete bearing rebuild. They can withstand an amazing amount of abuse when all the bearings are fresh and tolerances are within spec.
