Default Thinking of swapping back to 2:73s but....

I have a tp4600 converter and my mechanic told me that if I swap back from 3:73s to 2:73s then this would be a lot of strain on the converter. Is this true will my converter not last as long if I do this?I miss that free way pull.

How about a comprimise at 3.23s? Still give that killer top end and more pull then the 2.7s

2.73 gears will put more of a load on your converter, but it won't wear it out...it's too tough for that. My only concern is about your streetability. The TP4600 is going to feel REALLY LOOSE with 2.73 gears (but you'll still go really fast at the track and on the street ) This combination would be too loose for my tastes, but hey, I'm getting old.

You will pull harder on the highway with 3.73 gears (at most speeds), but you'll burn a lot more gas in the process.

I agree with Patrick.

The converter will work harder in town due to the loss of gear. Its pretty much fluid doing the work, so I'm not concerned about wear. However, this will increase the heat it generates when not locked up. Make sure your tranny cooler is up to the challenge

I can't even imagine how loose that would be...

You would have more slippage and therefore more heat.

I think around town it would really suck. I bet you would see rpms in the 3500-4000 range when passing people at part throttle.

I have 4.10's and they help out my Yank TP4400E.

I have a ST3500 and 2:73s and it feels pretty loose. I like it that way though, but damn, I can't even imagine what a TP4600 with 2:73s would feel like
