I was wondering how many of you have motives and have some whining? I had mine put in the other day and they make some noise. Its not NEAR as bad as some ive heard (richmond HAHA) but just at certain speeds itll howl kinda quietly. Oh 3.73 A4 here.

Most likely the setup isn't quite right.might need a lil break in,but htey shouldn't whine if the pattern(mesh) and pinion depth are correct. What speeds does it howl,if its real quiet, should be ok

I have a motive in mine and it whines like crazy whenever there is no load on it. I think it was just a crappy job the shop did at installing it. my posi is also slowly going out so that could be the whine too. I have a richmond gear in my 79 trans am and it whines a lil bit but not nearly as much as my camaro

I put a motive 3.73 in my a4 and it whines pretty loud on the coast side, but I think its my own fault so I am going to tear it apart after the next race and recheck the pattern on the gears and also reset the backlash which is set to barely .008". Motive recomends that it is set between .008"-.012". If the pattern is fine, would it help to reset the backlash at .010"?

My buddy have motive 3.73 gears (A4) and his makes noise just crusing. Its pretty loud. The shop he took it to said that is normal for 3.73s and 4.10s to make noise with the 10 bolts but the noise still bothers me. My 4.10s in my car are pretty new ( about 2,000 miles on them) and they make the same noise. I dont know what brand of gears they are because they were installed before i bought the car.

I have motive 3.73's, installed myself. Longest gear install I ever did because I could not get the coast and drive patterns ideal no matter what. I went with the best looking drive pattern. Now while driving it has little whine at light throttle and coast, no noise at all during acceleration. It seems to have gotten more quiet with time.

My motives were dead quiet (the Italian Motives) until a couple of launches after a 300 mile break-in and then they sounded like a fire siren.
They're in the corner of the garage now.
