Default My rear end whines too much???

My car hass 99k miles, I had all the fluids changed 200 miles after I got the car (w/96k miles), I dont remember and whines but then again I didnt drive it very long. Well after the fluid change I noticed (or stared noticing) a whine coming from the rearend. What could cause this? as far as I know its all stock, it has no clicking noise or anything like that just a whine to it. Any help is appreciated thanks!!!

Sorry if this is the millionth post about this problem, im just new to the F-body...

yea mine whines non-stop. Especially if your in gear and let off of the gas. The thing is really annoying sometimes but im just gonna wait til it breaks and then put a 9" in there. You can get it totally rebuilt with new gears and seals some places for about 600-800 bucks but imo its not worth it cuz chances are itll break at some point anyways and then youll be down 600-800 dollas.

No its running just the 75-90 (w/e) Royal purple straight, should I put in the additive?

Is it really going out, I have never launched the car and rarely drive it hard. It doesnt sound like anything is really wrong with it, it just whines and its getting a little anoying. Plus it only does it when accelerating not when letting off. Any more info is apprecitated, thanks...

It isnt definitly going out.....alot of them whine and still last for a long long time. But these are weak rear ends so if you plan on much modding there is a good chance it will go out at some point.

Default winey rearend

My Z28 2002 automatic I bought it new 10',000 dealer miles well the rear was allways verry loose so much space when I 'd let off and then nail it I spun out of control but never made any noise at all Finnally I broke the pinnion bearings doing hole shots 78,000 miles Now I rebuilt it with richmond gears stock 3.23 and it wines a little but on deseleration you can here it above the radio But its nice and tight and feels good and better control no space hole shots o.k. I took the carrior off saturday to see about the noise here is a picture the pinion depth mesurement is .008 shallow but I think I'l wait till spring and replace the carrior and axils and get motive or US gears. Notice the wear mark on the pinion are not all the way acrost it any have any experience please coment!!!!!!!

Do the additive, maybe even two bottles. It will help with low speed noises, like while turning. Won't help steady cruise noises on decel.

You need 2 bottles/tubes of limited slip additive. The gears are not lubricated properly and are probably not set right either.

I never heard mine whine until I put on an adjustable torque arm with the poly mounts. It will make a whining sound when your slowing down or coasting on the cam down a long hill. I think the more polymount on your car the more noise is transferred inside.

i have a 2002 tran am and i have the same problem my car has about 92000 miles and it recently started making the noise. I am wondering if it is a big problem driving my car with the whinding sound and if i could just leave it like that. I am thinking of putting some 3.73 gears and replacing all the bearings and pinions to see if that would stop the noise. Any comments would help...

Default Winey Rearend 2 bottles aditive

I also noticed in the Richmond Gear instuctions the recomended oil is richmond 75-140 I think i'll switch to that and add the 2 bottles of GM aditive. I did try the additive at advance Auto parts some weird off brand it didn't make any difference. Then I took a look look at their 75-90 oil I put in and it was a sythetic blend needless to say when I posted the last thred with pictures I changed to mobile one full sythetic 75-90 no additive and loosened the backlash to .012. Its a little quieter now and still feels good and tight.Holeshots are alright too.!!!! Ohh Ya Anyone who knows more than me can you please coment on why the wear marks on my pinion gear in this picture are not all the way acrost to the back.!!
