As the time draws closer - 2010 Camaro purchase
I know squat about cars.
I'll be buying a 2010 Camaro in Jul, in Miami.
I'd appreciate some advice about the options for the 6.2L SS manual.
Thoughts on RS package? Ground effects?
I will be driving this car for about a month out of every year. I want it to have a classic look 10 years from now, as it will look the exact same way as I buy it at that time.
I plan on upgrading the exhaust and any necessary engine bits (lol told you I know squat about cars) to make it snarl like a pissed off lion. What is recommended in this department (bearing in mind that it appears that most exhaust options appear to be for the SS without ground effects for example)?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I like the RS option, except they want to give you gray rims. Try and talk them into letting you keep the chrome rims. They tell me it will cost more to keep the chrome rims, but I wasnt serious about purchasing at the time either.

I dislike the RS package, I'm not a fan of the halo headlight crap (too modern/euro for my taste), and the price is too high for what you get. I am also not a fan of any ground effects kits that I've seen for these cars, they all look foul IMO.
You really can't take other's opinions into account when it comes to appearance though, this area is 100% subjective and there will never be total agreement on what looks best to everyone. You have to go with what YOU like best.
As for exhaust, opinion on sound is almost as wide ranging as opinion on appearance. Some people are happy with the sound of mild aftermarket mufflers, while others want to hear a heavily built engine with open headers. I don't know how you define "snarl like a pissed off lion", but to me this would require an aftermarket cam with significantly more overlap than stock (meaning intake and exhaust valves open longer at the same time), long tube headers, no cats, and very aggressive mufflers. This level of modification will void most of your powertrain warranty, and will get expensive.

I thought the RS package was a waste of money and the ground affects look like hell and you can spend that money elsewhere.U need to do long tube headers all the way back to the mufflers and it will be plenty loud.I left my stock mufflers on my car and it sounds great but not until 3000 rpms and up,Just the headers, pully,CAI and a Dyno tune and i am making 430 rwhp but next is a cam and axle back mufflers.

OP wants a classic look in 10 years then ground effects are out! Keep it clean and simple - best way to keep a car looking great for years to come.
RS package - Halos might not look that great in 10 years, but who can say. On the other side, I thought the RS package (2SS), got you center console gauges? Those are a "must have" on my 5th gen dream car...what better way to remember the first gens from the inside?

Just to clear up a couple things. The chrome tail light rings are on every model across the board. RS gets you darker lenses. Also the 4 pack gauages are on every leather equipped car, RS or not.
The RS appearance package consists of:
-Halo's/ HID headlights
-Darker tail light lenses
-Midnight silver painted 20" wheels
-Body color painted ditch molding
-Red "SS" badges
-Rear spoiler (V6 only, all SS' have spoiler)
I think it's worth it for the HID's alone.

IMHO RS package is a must I also love teh GM GMX but buy them after the fact you can get them for $1400 all day long v.s $2200 from the dealership.
Also just a FYI if you plan to order one you will have to buy a 2011 as the 2010's cannot be ordered anymore you will have to choose a left over 2010 of wait for the 2011's to hit the lots in July/August.
