Took my LS3 powered SS out friday for the street legal drags. first pass i used the competition mode. staged and matted the gas pedal and dumped the clutch.. BANG!! and some wheel hop. car made a hell of a noise and came out pretty soft. ran a 13.68 with a 2.404 60' at 105 mph. got a little better and finally got a best of 13.53@107 with a 2.223 60' this is a sea level track and the temps were mid to low 60's I was shifting at about 6300 rpm and i'm wondering if thats to high for a bone stock car (airbag tag still in place and factory air in tires) I have 2300 miles on the car. my buddy with a bone stock L99 car ran a best of 13.38 @105 mph. launching these M6 cars with 3.45 gears is a bitch!!

I can get pretty good starts on the street by holding the throttle at 3-4K. Then I hold the clutch pedal up until it is just about to grab....then let it out smoothly while steadily mashing the gas to the floor.
It is not a perfect start...but I am guessing it would be a 2.0-2.1 60ft on a track. Should be enough to get into the 12's.
The people who have ran 12.5-12.6 in this car stock only had 1.9-2.0 60 ft times LOL. They can be tricky.

L99 is harder to launch. Ease into it, don't just pedal to metal. Also heat those pirellis up. I got a 13.3@106 in my L99 in 60F at 2000~DA, with a 2.1 60'. Just learn to launch her and you will be in the 12s.

Yes, the clutch smell is not anything to be worried about. I have heard differing opinions but I think the LS3 clutch is pretty solid for a stock or lightly modded car. I have heard it is pretty similar to an LS7 clutch. I went to the track twice on my old clutch, launched the car on the street a lot, had over 9K miles on it and the service dept. said it looked almost new when they pulled it off (I had it changed under warranty when they put in the revised pressure plate because I complained about the pedal sticking).

To the OP, bring your car up to around 4k, and ride the clutch hard out the hole. After a couple of times you'll have it down, depending on traction you can adjust how hard to slip it. If you watch videos of some of the faster 2010 Camaro 6-speeds you'll notice that's the best way to do it.

I agree with Dark, Ultra and CamaroZ. As it's geared now, the SS will launch better with a good amount of slip. I also used to botch it by trying to get the clutch out as fast as possible.
I will say though, I don't smell clutch any more now that I have about 5k miles on the car...
