Aside from the GT500, it looks like Ford will forever use the 4.6L, helplessly limiting Mustang drivers to mosquito bite's for muscles.

lol typical internet bench racer..

don't forget about gearing and power curve. engines don't run at a constant peak HP.

And I love how everyone gets a new Mustang GT for about $30k. I work for a Ford dealership and sell the (loaded) GTs for $35-$40k all the time. Prices will be very simple for the norm, getting much more out of the Camaros, obviously.

Really, did they have a huge 5.0 decal on the doors and hood?

I've shopped at GM dealerships before......they don't go any more out of their way to cut you a break on a performance car than the Ford dealers do. Back in 05 I tried to get a good deal on a new LS2 GTO (manual), and the best anyone would do for me was just under 36K (and that's before TT+L). I expect a similar situation for the new SS Camaro's. Most ppl will be paying close to 40K (if not over) for a decently optioned specimen. And if I know dealerships well enough, most of the models they'll stock on their lots will be optioned to the wazoo and back, just like when any new hot car first hits the streets.

And all I can say about ppl paying that much for loaded GT's is this: GM's got its work cut out for it if Ford can still get ppl to pay that much over MSRP for a lowly 300hp pony.

We'll see if they go through with it... It is a little late though. Had Ford transitioned from the 5.0 HO to a 5.0 SOHC and DOHC back in 1996, they would have been much closer in performance to us.

I agree with this to a degree. Main problem is that Ford hasn't had any problems selling the car despite its severe lagging in the "go-fast" department for the last 15 years. That makes justifying (and then getting) better performing motors out of the beancounters alot harder to do. But just as the success of the latest gen Mustang helped spur GM into bringing the Camaro back.....hopefully having a well selling new Camaro (with plenty of go-fast to back it up) will spur Ford into saddling one of its newest crop of bigger/badder motors into the engine bay of the upcoming Mustang.

And no, Ford has not confirmed anything about a new 5.0 going into the upcoming Mustangs as of yet. All we know for sure is that a DOHC 5.0 motor has been developed and is in testing (nicknamed the Coyote). But I don't see that motor going into the GT.....it'd be too expensive. If there's any truth to the displacement increase in the GT models for the near future, my bet is that it will be in the form of a stroked version of the current 3V 4.6. That would make a 350-375hp GT very doable without significantly increasing build costs.

Guess we'll know more when Ford unveils the new Stang later this month.

Can't you go buy a fully loaded G8 GT for under $32, so why will the Camaro be so much different. Thats what I cant stand about the new Challenger, whatever happened to cheap relaible speed, like it used to be?

The camaro is more comparable to the G8 GXP. Look at the engine, brakes and suspension, and then look at all the different options that it has that the G8 doesn't.

Government regulations happened.

ford needs to drop the DOHC motors. **** those things. Expensive and under powered. They would be great if they were set up to rev to the moon like they were designed for in F1 racing. But since ford wont do that, what is the point? Put back in normal pushrod motors, cheaper, bigger, more powerful, etc.

stupid ******* fords.

How much is the 5L mod motor gonna make? Cant make much more than the 4.6 cause it is only .4 liters more to an already small v8.

Saleen made 390bhp out of the current 3V 4.6 by stroking it out to a 5 liter. Ford is supposedly working on a 4V 5.0 at the moment. Such a motor, especially if its a DI motor like I've heard, could easily make in the 400-420bhp range, depending on how they tune it out of the factory.

The extra .4 liters power production might fool
you in the power increase dept. Just to answer the question seriously , projected output will be 400+ h.p/ 400+ lb-ft. All this is from rumor's you know .. We will see soon i guess.
