Mustang owners getting scared......

The 3900lb tank of a Camaro will have a tough time when next year the Mustang has 400hp @ 400lbs less weight. The 2010 Camaro is coming out 5 years after the 05 Mustang GT which remains UNTOUCHED performance wise. The Camaro is just coming out late in the game.
Personally the new Mustang and Camaro both look like flaming dog poop, but the HP wars and rivalries are fun to watch.

How ironic, the owner of a 3800lbs Mustang calling the Camaro a tank...
In a strait line it will be close, on a track though the Camaro will have it unless Ford does some serious suspension work.
Is it cold under that rock where you live? Untouched? The S197 GT still struggles to keep up with bone stock LS1 cars from 1998.

These are muscle cars, the small difference in handling doesn't mean **** to me. Do you track your Camaro? I'd take the lighter car with 400hp thanks. Remember, track performance is a combination of handling, acceleration and braking. The heavier cars can't accelerate or brake as hard.

My favorite part from their forums was..
My sister and a cousin of mine both are looking to get into one. My cousin can only afford the sixxer though, and my sis will only get the SS if she can secure a deal for under 34K with the options she wants. I do get some smack talk from both regarding their new Camaros vs my GT.....but I"m not in the least bit worried. My sis's SS will weigh as much as a GT500 (but without the power), and my cousin's........well........hahahahahahahaha.
and I think I would have a chuckle when she supercharges hers and stomps you lol

She's not gonna be supercharging anything. That car will stay bonestock, I can assure you. I know it's hard for guys like you to understand, but not every Camaro ever made gets a "Mustang-raping-kit". So unless you plan to come down and pay for her to hotrod her SS (IF she gets one), I'd find something else to go chuckle at. I'm hardly the most amusing fanboy on that site or this one.

The LS3 is a monster when it comes to motor mods. At least Ford is offering a supercharged package from Ford racing for under $3,000, factory warranty and everything. Ford, and everyone else knows that DOHC motors shine when boosted.
I know the GM guys love to say, "Fords need a blower to keep up with a modded N/A LSX", as a Ford owner I strongly agree.

if the 5.0 responds even remotely as well to mods as the 6.2 in the raptor it could get real interesting

I agree that weight is an issue, but as I've pointed out before both the new Evo and STI weigh like 3800 lbs, are among the best in their class for handling and spped, and thats with 300 or less HP

Not to nitpick, but the current Evo weighs in a little over 3500 lbs, the current STI......a bit over 3300 lbs. Plus both start off costing more than the upcoming SS.

At any rate, I was in no means comparing the Evo and STI to an SS, only pointing out how even pigs can pull through a tight corner with a nice suspension

The numbers you're talking about were test weights, meaning what R&T's cars weighed with their drivers and whatever other equipment they brought on board with them. Most ppl on these forums usually compare cars by their listed official curb weight (just the car with standard equipment and all necessary fluid....coolant, oil, and fuel), since drivers run a wide range in the weight department.

430hp, huh. Just like the LS1 was rated at what, 305hp in the early LS1 Camaro? But regularly puts down 310hp+ to the wheels...
I'll be damned if the new SS doesn't put 410 to the wheels - with about 17% loss that's right under 500hp.
Historically, the Mustang has been correctly- or even over-rated while everything from GM has been significantly under-rated.
Anyone else remember when the first '305hp' Mustangs hit the dynos in the 1990s? 220rwhp, 225rwhp were the norm on the 5spd models.
Anyone ever dyno their stock '285hp' LT1? 255-270rwhp w/ 6spd. My 96 T/A M6 put down 281rwhp with an SLP catback.
Stock '305hp' LS1 Z28 6spd - 305-315rwhp is to be expected.
If this trend continues, the Mustang will dyno at 325 and the SS will dyno at 410. Now that little tiny 30hp advertised difference is a whopping 85hp to the wheels!
Recalculating...
Mustang GT = 3500lbs / 325rwhp = 10.77
Camaro SS = 3900lbs / 410rwhp = 9.51
Amazing what an advertised rating can do for Ford. Truth is in the dyno and track tests. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I have friends with stock "factory" '96-'98 Cobra's and on a hot day with humid Georgia air never dyno'd that low.
