Default 2010 SS at the track

Last night went to the local test and tune and was setting in line. I look to my right and what do I see a red SS sitting in tech. After I made my run I went to the stands to watch him. He bogged the hell out of his launch and ran 13.8 @ 105. He get's back in line and go's again well he launches a hell of a lot better and ran a 13.5 @ 109 but he f up his rear end and had to be hauled off on a roll back. The damn car did not even have plates on it yet. I wonder if this is happening alot.

This was at the track in Gulfport? As a comparison, my bone stock 99 back in 2000 went 13.2 @ 106 on that track. I am curious to see one of these run a Stock 4th Gen.

He probably stripped the axle. I did to mine and I wasn't being abusive like he was. If he was using the competitive mode launch control, it would be covered under warranty anyway.

A brand new stock car with a couple hundred miles absolutely should not.

Makes me feel better about my 02SS. It did 13.2 - 108 stock with a 6 speed. And the 10 bolt went 12000 mi with twin turbos and 575rwhp.
(then blew up)

I'm sure people are going faster, and with better luck.

Sorry this made me laugh, I have been thinking the same thing every time I see the "it's a pig" or "it's to expensive" comments.

On another story so the rear end broke, Can't even count how many 03 cobra's I saw getting flat bedded from the track when they first came out. Still a beast of a car.

Oh wait, my 02 Z's rear end broke at a red light on 245 Good Year GSC's.

I would imagine the guy launched wrong, had horrible wheel hop and snapped the half shafts. This can and will happen to any IRS car if you launch it wrong. Much easier to replace half shafts than a 10 bolt rear.

I would love to know what he broke. The parts for the 2010 Camaro are very stout. The stubs into the carrier are 32 spline. The ring gear looks to be more than 8.6" in diameter.

The right side shaft is massive.

I would not use the launch mode, IMO the fact that it controls the throttle body or spark would encourage wheel hop.

I have run 12.99 with Nitto 305/30/20 Drag Radials. The torque management tries to kill power and that hurts the launch.

Others on here report that they improved the launch when the torque management was disabled.

No warranty on that though

Robin

I can guarantee that when I ran my stock 04 Z06 and wife's 05 GTO M6 at the track if I had not lifted when the wheel hop began things would have broken. The driver needs to know when to take care of the car, maybe this guy tried to stay WOT through massive wheel hop.

That sucks, I thought the different OD of the other shaft was going to help reduce hop? I guess its ever present on IRS cars?

And to everyone who loves to bash the 5th gen.... maybe you better take a closer look at your 4th gen...I love them, but there is plenty to bitch about there as well...
