Is Anyone Afraid to Buy the New Camaro the First Year?
I think that i will be a little hesitant to buy the new 09 Camaro in the first year of production. It seems like I get screwed everytime I buy a new car in the first year of production for one reason or another. There are usually bugs that GM has to work out, and major recalls. Also, it seems like the best trim options and engine packages come out a couple years down the road (the GTO is a good example of this). Is anyone else willing to be patient and wait for the '10 or '11 models, or do you just buy the '09 and trade it in when a cooler model comes along?

I'm already on a waiting list for my 2009. I think I'll only put intake, exhaust, and headers on the 09 and use it as a daily driver. I'll trade it in on a later model if they are decisivley cooler.

I just saw the red concept here in Miami. I would not hesitate to buy the first year model as GM has a lot riding on this car. I think they'll do it right unlike typical years past.

first year is out of the question simply because i'll just be graduating college in '09 and i won't have the money.
but even if i DID have the money, i'd wait a year or two for some of the "bugs" to be worked out. a great example of this alone is the 1998 f-body. there were a lot of changes between the '98 and '99 f-bodies, and by '01 they were a hybrid LS6 motor. so many changes in 3 years...
the GTO is another great example, also. the first year had a 350hp LS1, the second year had a 400hp LS2. what a big upgrade in a single year's time! i'd be upset if i bought an '04 GTO only for an LS2 to go in it the next year, not to mention the better hood and dual exit exhaust.
i'd wait until year 3 if i had the money.

Plus mark up alone would make me turned off unless i had so much money I could feel ok blowing 10k like that.
For a new camaro 09 loaded factoring mark up etc those first few will go for the same price as a 06 z06. I bet the 06 z06 will walk on the new camaro.

I'm in agreement with you on this, plus 2012 should be the 45 Anniv., and maybe they'll figure out a way to get t-tops in it by then also.

If they use an existing drivetrain combo, I wouldn't be hesitant to buy at all. As I recall, I don't remember very many 4th gen LS1 f-bodys being recalled for mechanical failures. The only one I can think of is a problem in the '98 with some cylinder head problems or something (my car was recalled when the previous owner had it). We know about the roof bubbling, we know about the shitty power windows, and we know about the master cylinders being crappy.
Of course over time the camaro would get better. It would be stupid for GM to produce the exact same car for 4 or 5 years without any modifications or upgrades at all. That's what warranty is for anyway.

Now that i actually think about it, I think i would wait for a 2010 or even 11, I plan on buying this camaro for the long haul. 20 or 30 years from now i still want to have no regrets on getting the car i wanted. The gto guys had to be pist when the 05 came out, and i would be to. an ls6 or ls7 is verry possible in a couple of years so i will drool over the 09 until the better engine option comes out.
red 98, TS Z28, k&n f.i.p.k., ported stock throttle body, chip performer, b&m shift kit, 3.73 gears, 3'' exhaust. And one bad motha fu--er behind the wheel.

I made up my mind and reasoned with myself over this a while ago. I'll get one in its second or third year at the end of the season to get a good price or financing options and will get the high end engine with only select options. I hope everything is standard or a la carte so I get my unique build I want. I don't want packages that forces me into things I may not want.
