that would be killer to have a ZL1 model. But I somehow just dont see that being an option but you never know. Maybe they will comeout with a new engine something like a LS3 or something when they come out.
Id think they would make the V6 compareable to the V6 mustang and only make 200-250hp. Im sure we will see a 400hp V8 either ss or z28.
No don't worry they will be 2500lbs no prob!

for starters, atleast ford got it right not make the stang a FWD platform in the 80's. Now they have a probe, and thats fine, cause they would of killed whatever momentum they would of had.

Now, there has been a few good points posted here. First, I would love to see chevy stick with the N/A small block performance. Guys, remember something, there is that new GM block that anyone, right now, can pump out 454ci, for example, of raw power. And even more ci's if you so wish.

With that, a base v6 should a considerable performer and yield over 20mpg. The new 3.6 comes to mind, however, i think the DOD program from GM will be its bread and butter with the current and upcoming fuel economy wars. Also, you could have a 300hp+ v6 for those that want a stronger v-6, still with decent mpg and not be a slouch.

For the v8's, i think a two or three spec plan might work out. I vote a two engine program, but there is a market for v8 performance at a reasonable value. Thus, it may look like this:

1. 5.3L 362-390hp (Good performance with DOD)
2. 6.2L 430-450hp (The new standard of camaro performance, with DOD)
3. 6.?? 500-530hp (Im not sure on final disp, but it can anywhere for 6.7L to 7.0L or more. However, DOD wouldn't be a necesary option as if will be a limited production and honestly, I wouldn't care if it made 20mpg or 15mpg!)

With that, you can derive a few options and/or trims to suit a good variety of possibly owners. You know your gonna have the ppl that want to take it before the break-in period to the track and rip on it. So, make a stripper version with a hardtop. You gotta make a t-top/targa top option and of couse the convertible. Add features like bluetooth, ipod interface, navigation, wamers/coolers for the seats, and slick interior surfaces, like the leather wraped dashboard. I would be all over that!!!!!

And of course, make the visuals accordingly to the trim. The bad boy SS/ZL1 with strips, GF's, etc. Personally, i would love if they made it a ZL1 since that just sounds cool!!!

With those numbers standard, GM/chevy will have a lineup that will hang with just anything fords brings out and it sure as hell with outhandling it.

The 5.3 liter won't happen, GM is already putting a 362 HP 6.0 liter in the G8 and Impala, theres a good chance, if there were 2 V8s, that that would be the base

you know, that gets me thinking, what if GM has a new displacement V8 in the works, like a 5.5 or 5.7L with DOD and some new technology to replace the old 5.3L? I mean the 5.3L IS a little grey on top, being like 8 years old...

It's just that a 6.0L engine sounds too big for a base performance engine. IDK...

6.0 is a huge engine, I agree, especially for an Impala or G8. I would have thought GM would have starting making engine displacement smaller, but have the overall engine be more sophisticated and produce more HP, rather than a larger displacement and more HP

oh christ leave the horsepower per liter to the jap companys... i dont know why people get off on hp/liter. All that matters if how much horsepower you have. period.

Lets compare gas mileage per horsepower. Engine weight to horsepower. Low displacement high horsepower engines dont have as much potential and usually have shitty torque torque curves and just arnt as fun to drive...

Give me as much displacement you can give me without ruining the drivebility of the car with weight. GM can go atleast 7 liters right now and not be any heavier then our ls1. Im sure they could go bigger if they needed. The lsx block for an extra 110 pounds can go to what 481 ci? Ill take that please.

What's wrong with that? Impalas were laying down rubber at drag strips before the Camaro(and for that matter, the Mustang) was even THOUGHT up. The Impala deserves RWD and a V8, I'm sorry. I'm tired of this FWD V6 bs, the Impala needs to compete with the 300/Charger better.

Today the Impala is a shell of its former self. But it has become a family sedan when it use to be a somewhat powerful luxurious coupe.

The 5.3 isn't going to happen. I wish people would put that to rest. They'll probably be a hipo V6 in between the base V6 and 6.2L V8.

Why? I think that'd be GREAT!! I can smoke an LT1 Camaro (stock) in my DD V-6 G35 Sedan and a Mudstain too for that matter. Progress and technology are great why hold back?!

V6's sound like **** and traditionally don't have the aftermarket and or power potential of an eight. It's simple math.

Thats stupid. The first LS1 in F-bodies by 2009 will have been 11 years ago!

You think GM should water down the new V6 Camaro so that people will buy a (slightly) more powerful 4th gen? GM already made their money selling 4th gens when they were NEW!

They have nothing to gain by watering down a V6 Camaro. Hell if by 2009 GM doesnt use a decent V6 that is cranking close to 300 horses, somethings F'd up.

The more the horsepower in any model, the better PERIOD. Sure they have a nice economy Camaro for you, a performance V6, and an even more power V8(s) model(s).

I don't think a performance V6 Camaro should surpass a standard V8 Camaro, but if you want GM to screw over the performance V6 so that your LT1 and LS1 aren't put to shame, then you shouldn't be on this forum.

I'm tired of this ****, that V6s are looked down on. Ok they'll never be a V8 true, but not everyone can afford a V8 MSRP, gas prices, and insurance. Not all of GM's consumers want that. So if they make a decent performance V6, I'm all for it. You don't have to be a hard core modder to appreciate the Camaro

Right on !! I think it's very important that the new Camaro has a 300+hp V-6. WTH, would anyone who cant afford or doesn't want a V-8 buy a Camaro with a shitty 255hp V-6 when they can get a RWD jap sedan with more power?

Gotta have a V-8 Camaro/F-Bod for sure but I just don't understand why the auto enthusiast wouldn't want a powerful V-6 as well.

hydramatic and I were having a big discussion about the 5.3 liter V8. He wanted a 5.3, I didn't, to say the least.

I somewhat understand your 5.3 argument though hydramatic. However If the Camaro has a regular V8 and performance V8 option, I think the regular V8 should at least be the 6.0 liter going into the new Impala and G8, not the 5.3 liter.
