Irritate me. I currently have (front to back) stock manifolds,3" catted ypipe, 3" intermediate pipe, 3" hooker aerochamber muffler, 3" tails, stock tips. ?
My problem is that this thing sounds to damn quiet for me. I figured it would get louder the more i drove it and broke in the muffler, but that sure was a joke. The car has an overall good tone i have no problem with that, i just cannot stand how quiet it is, even under WOT it gets drownded out by most of the "modded' cars in my area. I plan on doing some Long Tube headers here soon, and heard my buddies 01 Z28 he has the same exhaust setup as i do other than he is running 3" offroad ypipe (no cats) and full length pacecetter long tubes. His exhaust is extremely raspy and doenst sound all to good to me, it kinda has a week tone to it.I really really dont want my car to sound the way his does once i do my longtubes here soon.
So my question is what would the car sound like if i cutout that hooker aerochamber and replaced the open area with a section of 3" piping? Im not sure what this will sound like ive searched these forums and ls1sounds.com with no real luck. Im just sick of my car sounded like a Pooch and want it to have a nice clean loud exhaust note idc how loud it is my only preference is rasp i dont like "ALOT" of rasp, i can deal with alittle-mid amount but if its 100% rasp mobile i tend to not like that much. So would removing my hooker muffler and replacing it with some piping be a good move to wake up the sound alittle bit? Also can someone post up some sound clips of "stock manifolds, 3" catted ypipe, 3" intermediate pipe, 3" tailsm 3" tips, no muffler" id really appriciate it and would like to hear everyones honest opinions on it. Id really not like to purchase a new muffler right now unless its a resonable price so if you think cuttin out the muffler and replacing it with piping would be a bad idea then what would u recomend to replace my hooker aero with? Thanks in advance guys sorry for all the reading and miss spelled words, i love you all
hahahaha!

if youre thinking of having it no muffler just unbolt it. hooker has a flange on the inlet of the muffler that easily unbolts.
my car has stock exhaust with just a cutout before the muffler. i love it. it pops sometimes on the decel but its not very raspy at all. its very loud and in the higher RPMs it sounds nascar-like. so many people ask if ive got headers.

the exhaust system you have now is not setup to be loud...stock manifolds/cats/hooker is going to be relatively quiet....if you dont want to put headers on i would sudgest going with a loudmouth setup or for even cheaper check out the TSP Rumbler catback....both are great for stock manifolds...if you are wanting headers i would definatly go with an ORY and maybe a magnaflow system...i also heard edelbrocks 3'' system sounds nice with longtubes/ORY..or if you dont feel like spending all the money grab a cutout and slap it in the Y pipe just before the catback and have the best of both worlds!
hope this helps

i had a very quiet slp catback on my car, i dont know if it was a production product or not, but i've compared mine next to my aunts stock SS and here exhaust was louder.... now my lid on the other hand is quite rambunctious.

td's are not raspy and give you more power. rasp comes from exhaust gasses colliding against the pipes caused by turbulence in the system. a flowmaster y merge or a good xpipe will eliminate that. cats eliminate rasp by slowing the velocity of the exhaust.

I have Pacesetter longtubes and ORY hooked up to a Hooker cat-back and it is not one bit raspy at all. That is one of the reasons why I kept going with this system (second one) because I love the way it sounds under wot. No rasp just a deep tone. If you still have your AIR system you will continue to hear "popping" sounds when revving the car and when slowing down from 45 or above usually. Dont mistake this for rasp in the exhaust because it will go away if you delete the AIR system.
