Haha, basically... with crazy bald tires too. The ZR1s were just starting to grow on me too.. but the C5's look good too. They could have at least given me the full treatment
. I think that was their plan, because there are two spare tires in my backseat right now that they left, so they were probably going to put them on later. What sucks is that they probably stole the c5's on my car from another fbody or vette =/.

All you need is a certain kind of resistor - put it inline with the vats system (I think the two wires are orange) and it bypasses the "security" chip. The little thing in your key is actually just a resistor.
If you want, tomorrow I'll take pics of my fuses so u can match them up

Is it possible they hacked the correct resistor into the vats wiring in a way that when the key with the correct chip in it adds to the resistance value and thats why it's not starting? Maybe try a key with no vats chip.

they would have had to basically tap into the wire and not cut it completely. Otherwise where they cut and put in the new resistor is where the signal ends and wouldn't make a difference on the key end. This is how i did the VATS bypass on my '96Z28. It worked and then didn't and i couldn't wait for the shop to get around to fixing it so i just bypassed. Took me half a day with going to Radio Shack for the resistors and then getting the resistance value from the key beforehand. Dealer said a week because they were busy(crap only 2 vehicles in the shop). To the O/P if the column peices are busted up and shattered(couldn't tell in the pics) then you will have to replace the column
if you need parts check out ebay or www.car-parts.com . i hope this helps ya get the car on the road sooner though bro...

Thats car-part.com. no S.
In the pictures of the underhood fuses, the only one missing is for the horn (top fuse box pic).
The fuses in the car are all there you must just not have steering wheel controls for the radio. Those are the 1 amp fuses in my pics.
The empty fuse locations that are missing terminals are for options your car does not have. Like RH HDLP DR is for the headlight motor on a firebird/trans am (right hand headlamp driver)

Well like the guy said above the one that is not used is fine. There are a few in the fuse panel inside too. I wan't to say the one that should be used is the horn... Get me some pics of the cut wires and I will help you the best I can with just pics. If you were in Mobile AL. I would drive to help you, but New Orleans long drive. I agree with the slow butter knives.

I still dont see these thieves spending this kind of time to steal a car. You guys are talking about tapping into wires and all that good stuff. Now I can see the steering wheel locking and then they just use power to break that. Then the car is driveable, but I dont see them "re-wiring" the car so it will run. It would be nice to know exactly what there doing to get them so quick.

Just curious on your insurance. If it was stolen from your residence, can your homeowners insurance kick in, or does it just cover stuff that happens on your property? More I think of it, probably not. Just looking at options for you.

I originally started this thread to get some ideas to start it myself, but the thread ended up dying after I took it to the dealer anyway. But might as well give an update! It is currently at a Chevy dealership getting worked on, as of today, it has been there for exactly a week, and they're still waiting for parts to come in to work on it. All I know for now is that the steering column is being worked on/replaced, getting replacemenet wheels and tires (replica ZR1s... but I think they look the same except for the wheel caps), and hopefully they can fix the VATS/alarm system back to normal. I sure hope they know what they're doing. I also need a new stereo headunit too, which will be covered by insurance, but the dealer said they can't do it so I have to take it somewhere else afterwards. The wait is killing me! I just want to drive the damn thing again, but good thing I still have my beater 2002 ford escort zx2.
Question. What would you guys do? I obviously bought the car to enjoy and drive as much as I can, not just sit and drool over it like some others do. If I start driving the Camaro to school again it might get stolen again since that's where it got stolen in the first place... but... if I leave it home and take the beater as a daily driver instead, the Camaro still has just as good chance of being stolen right off my driveway since we don't have a garage, and the street in my neighborhood is pretty quiet. My plans after getting the car back is figuring out a way to install a kill switch or just get the Ravelco system, and using a steering wheel lock to deter any more attempts, although if they really wanted to, they will just tow it.
