Default What H/C should I buy

Hey guys.

I have a '99 SS that is stock with the exception of a lid. I just purchased a LS6 intake as well as a P/P TB. I would like to buy heads and a cam next. This car might be my DD in the near future, so I would like to keep as much drivability as possible. However, like everyone, I would also like as much power as possible too.

What heads and cam shoud I run? Thanks for the help fella's.

first off you will need headers before you think about heads/cam. second these threads pop up damn near every day... do yourself and us a favor, and just do the research. What one of us thinks is the "perfect" head/cam combo might not suite your needs.

sorry to sound like a dick, but someone asks this at least 3 times a week, and every time it gets flooded with so many variations of heads/cams that the OP usually is more confused than when they asked the question.

I am not a newbie to this site, I search for everything before I post. I want someone to answer the question I asked for my specific needs. I want the car to make alot of power but still maintain its drivability.

I am ordering pacesetter LT's and a TSP true dual kit.

Now, can someone please answer my question instead of spending just as much time telling me to try a search??

You should do full bolt-ons first!!!!Learn how to drive the car with that setup ,then do h/c.Bolt-ons alone totally change these cars.Check out some of the major sponsors for some h/c packages.****; i would tell u just to do a cam only setup.Workin for me!!!

The "stockish" driving heads/cam combo we've come across that made impressive power gains has been the Lingenfelter GT11 cam with P&P LS6 heads (I would recommend TEA Stage II's), although TFS 215's would work great as well. With manual LS2 we've picked up 100rwhp with the Headers/Cam/Heads. Automatic LS2's (A6 Vettes) we've picked up 87rwhp. I wouldn't expect that much of a gain on a LS1/LS6, but it'd be close. Not bad for cam that idles at 650rpm, and sounds bone stock.

My suggestions would be to look at the Futral Motorsports h/c package as well as check the internal engine section for more info.

I would suggest a custom grind cam in the low 230s with an lsa of 112 or higher and some tfs 215s. Some ported ls6 or 5.3 heads wouldnt be bad but if you can afford it id go for the trick flows or afrs.

Like everyone said you will need headers, just put together what sounds good to you that you can afford, i.e. heads(with flow numbers) and send PatrickG a pm.
