Lightbulb I WANT 30MPG LSX TA...help me do it!

Anyone know if there is a program out where i can enter Engine RPMs, Trans Ratios, Rear ratios and Tire size to put out a RPM/gear/speed chart?
Im know t-56s have various speed ratios for the gearing, and rear ends are rather simple to change out, but im looking to just be able to plug in numbers into a program and get results quickly without having to go through all the math.

What im trying to do is get a Engine/Trans/rear combo built up, and try to hit 30+mpg on it. Im running a 6 speed now, and when im on the highway, im cruising on average 1600-1800 rpm in 6th ( 67-80...3.42s). My car is still perfectly driveable down to 1200 rpm in 6th on the highway. This is not a track car, this is not a drag car. This is just a DD/weekend cruiser, and i still want something that purrs and has some ***** to back it. Looking at ls3 setups (~500hp), a Viper t-56 to back it (custom built), and changing my rear to a 2 series if necessary just for the gas mileage....If its possible. Any thoughts? I already know weight loss is a plus.

6-speed + 2.73s = Economy

With the regular bolt-ons to free up flow and an underdrive pulley to slow the accessories down, I think it's achievable. There's also a lot of weight you can ****** out without noticing it. If you don't want to go with a bigger cam, why not spray it? Keep it docile when you're just peddling around, but have that switch encase someone wants some. These days with electric bottle openers and NANO technology, you don't have to wait or fiddle with things; just arm and fire.

I think the gears, pulley, and easy driving alone will get you to 30mpg. That and make sure she's tuned to the t.

What kind of power/number goals are you hoping to achieve? 500hp? 400? 11s? Trap 130mph? 120mph? 140? You say you want it to have *****, but "having *****" could mean 2 completely different things to 2 different people.

I vote nitrous too, btw.

Also, fwiw, with a lid and full exhaust, at ~3400lbs (w/ me and tools), untuned, I got 28mpg going from San Antonio Raceway and back (3 hours round trip @ ~75), with 5-8 passes in there too (low 13s @ 111ish).. I bet with a tune it'd be even better.

the problem i see with you getting 500hp through a 6speed is going to be asking the 10bolt to survive, and getting a bigger rear will drop your gas mileage.

Buy a Corvette My Frc gets 31-33 on the highway. I have owned 12 4th generation F-Bodies and never achieved more than about 27

The tune can help you out also.

Increase DFCO time, increase throttle open percentage before you enter PE fueling, lean out part-throttle cruise while increasing partial load timing.

Working on getting 18-20mpg avg. on the suburban currently. Considering even adding a HHO setup on it.

I averaged about 30 to 31 mpg once with my t/a when it was stock on a trip to florida. Tires were 245's, aired up to about 40 psi, driving with cruise on at about 75 mph with no electrical consumers on. Temperature was cool, about 40 degrees or so. Ironically i hadnt set out to "hyper mile" it, but once i realized that i had averaged about 30 mpgs while filling it up, I decided to see what i could get out of it if i tried. I got 27 mpgs.... Go figure.

Moral of the story: Thinner tires that are aired up for less rolling resistance than the stock 275's + a good underdrive pulley and playing around with the proper speeds will net you 30 mpgs in a t/a.

Step 1: 2.73's or taller (keep 10 bolt axle!)
Step 2: Lean Cruise / optimize timing table at part load
Step 3: Skinnier and harder compound tires, (205's or even 195's!)
Step 4: Reduce weight (amount of benefit depends on amount removed)
Step 5: increase DFCO range (only really benefits in city)
Step 6: Lower car/Aero mods

DAMN! i wish i was pullin that. My car also weighs a little more than yours, plus is more aerodynamic. Thanks for the input everybody. lookin at mid 12s max. Not looking for a monster. 450-500hp would be more than enough. Long as she still purrs, and can give most people a run for their money.

I got 28mpg highway on M6/3.90s/full bolt ons/ls6 cam&heads/405rwhp, and 26mpg highway on M6/3.90s/(230/232 cam)/full bolt ons/stage 2+ heads/443rwhp so with less gearing it's very easy to do!

30 mpg and power isn't all to hard, just want to increase efficiency. gearing alone won't do it. If you run 2.73 and push the rpm below engine operating efficiency, you won't get the benefit of any mileage increase for the low rpm turning.

Think of it this way, it takes x amount of energy to move y amount of mass. You reduce mass, or you increase the amount of energy output per amount of fuel used.

Mods that increase combustion efficiency, say headers, intake, full exhaust. Rotating mass reduction via underpulley, electric waterpump, lightened flywheel, lighter tires/rims.

Though all this begs the question, why are you in this hobby? It's all about power here...

my aeroforce gauge says I'm at 30 during most of my highway driving. I'd be happy to see what some underdrive pulleys would do for me.

How did you go through so many?

Also, if you want power and mpgs twin turbo is the best way to go. Not cheapest, nitrous is cheaper of course, but you have to fill it and i personally like something thats always on.

Also supercharger tend to hurt mpg while turbos dont at all, and they produce less torque than the turbo.
