Yep, only 9 years late to the party.

I guess Ford should have done the shareholder comparo that GM did when they designed the LS motor. Take an OHC and an OHV motor in tha same chassis and drive them back to back (in a C4) and see what direction the shareholders felt like investing in. I think it was the LT4 vs the LT5 but I lost the LSX book a long time ago.

Either FORD did not do anything similar to this or they are too easy to please.

My opinion does not apply to the 4V (N/A or FI) but it sure would have been great to have a 5.4-6.0L 4V Mach 1 though we may never had the 03 Cobra.

The better question is - how much better can GM make the LS motor? Thier next head design will be perfect circles for the int/ext and more cubes I guess.

IIRC, they have a 3 valve pushrod design head. that is supposed to flow excellent and superior to the current 2v ls heads
there was a brief article about it in GMHTP mag. some time back

having an ls1 in the LS world is like being an elephant with the smallest dick...compared to other elepants it's small, but it's still bigger than any other animal in the jungle!!!

meaning.... you may not be as fast as ls3's and ls7's but you can still beat all the other cars on the road. LOL

do a heads/cam/intake setup and spray the house down with a 150hp shot. when people ask if you wanna race, say "it's just a little ls1....but...ok...for 500 bucks"

A 12 year old engine is old? How long did first gen Chevy engines dominate, like 35 years? And there are still a lot of small blocks kicking Honda ***. Just like the LT1's and even more so now with the LSx's.

Considering that the next logical step would be to go direct injected and that they typically make about 20-25% more HP than the previous motor thats a damn good indication.

There are more ignorant people now I believe.. It definitely still gets respect.. But then again I'm not pulling up with a stock car either.

If they run their mouth.. Just tell them you want to run to see how slow it really is, that usually shuts people up.

Last year I had a surprise. Had a high schooler come up to me with a bunch of his friends "hey is that the one that has the LS1"
Me-"Uhh yeah, how did you know?"
Him-"Cool, do you mind popping the hood, I just wanna see what it looks like under there"

That was last year, this year I had a guy ask me how I liked driving the car, I said its great and we talked about it for about 10 minutes meanwhile the whole time he thought it was an ordinary SB. I some how said "LS1" somewhere in the conversation and then he got even more interested "ohhhh its got an LS1? I didn't know that"

I was at a dealer checking out a new SS and the salesman asked if it's just the one with the 305. A lot of people think we're still running the old school small blocks. When they hear LS1, they get that look about them.

My father in law still calls the LS1 a 350 simply because its a 5.7L engine but then I tell him its really a 346 cu in he really gets confused.

I'm saying I'd build me a bigger ci Ironblock without having to use the fat-*** LSX block.

can build a ERL sleeved block and go up to 500ci if need, with the plate or up to 440ci with standard deck with a ls2,ls3,l92 alum block
