Default Would like some opinions

I am just curious which route I should go. I found a completely stock 02 Z28 and a 99 T/A WS6 with a few mods. They are both at lots and I figure I can talk them down about $1000k each.

I want a fast, good looking car and I have $9,000 cash right now plus $2500 or whatever I can get for my 95 V6 Camaro DD.

I am just curious what other people would do. Should I get the Z28 and have $4,000-$5,000 in mods, or get the WS6 that already has some mods(description says custom rear end, custom exhaust and something else) and dump $1,500-$2500. The shift light in the T/A scares me though, probably had the **** beat off of it. I would atleast put rims on the Camaro so that would knock out alot of the mod price.

The Trans Am has right under 90k miles and the Camaro has 100,500k I think.

Camaro is $7500(prolly $6500 after negotiating) and the T/A is $10,000(hopefully $8,500 or atleast $9,000 after negotiating)

those are not stock tips on the Camaro. look underneath it your a 16 yr old kid the dealers are going to try to screw you and wont think your really buying a car and do not tell them you have 9k down. good luck on your purchase but be careful, i say keep looking

if all is sound, i would go for the 02 Z28. LS6 intake, and 2.5k cheaper...cant go wrong.

What is that on the rear bumper of the TA? bondo?

and i do believe those are stock tips on the z28. i would just double check though; a stock exhaust is one piece from the y pipe to the tips. if theres a clamp holding 2 pieces together or a weld holding 2 pipes together, than you know its not stock.

i would say the z28, not to say it hasnt been beat on but with the shift light on the ws6 and the mods its pretty definite it got beat on, but definitley dont tell them you have that much to put down.

I would go Trans Am... Looks 10 X's better and you are going to beat the **** out of it anyways.. If it does have a built rear and some other things they may have taken the necessary precautions to not break some things..
IE.
Clutch
9"
Forged bottom end

You never know, the dealership sure as hell won't.

The tips are NOT stock. They are chromed stock LT1 style exhaust tips.

Both cars have too many miles to start seriously modding, IMO. I would use all the money you can to buy the nicest low mileage car you can find.

if you can find out exactly what is done to the t/a, then it might be worth the extra money. the "custom" rear end could be just gears or a new posi, or it could be a whole new 9" or 10 bolt. i think it looks a little better too. gotta find out what it has done, or its a no go for me. personally, i paid a little more for a stock car because it gave me peace of mind.

those are definitely not stock tips on the z28 so you might have a new exhaust on there which is a benefit. newer car is good for the ls6 intake, but more miles. if you get it for $6,500 like you say & you sell you car for 2500, thats an extra $5,000 for mods. you can get wheels and tires, full exhaust, a lid (already have ls6 intake), a cheaper H/C package or some suspension or a rear end. plenty of options there to catch up to the t/a's mods.

check everything, lights (esp on the t/a), windows, etc. all that extra money from the camaro leans me that way, but if both are solid, might not be bad choice either way. but with high mileage cars, go with the one that is in better overall condition. not a fan of red, but since both are my vote is in the camaro direction slightly, since you could have 5k extra for mods.

Looks to me like the t/a has 16" rims. Are you sure its a real ws6?I would say go with the z.The shift light in the ta is pretty much a give away that it has been beat on,and probly pretty often.Whatever you decide to do just check the m both over very well and drive them both.dealerships will try to screw ya sometimes

Yeah, red's not my first choice either, but they are the only things that don't have 180,000 miles. I would love an NBM car or something.

Ok well I guess I will have to check both out in person..

It also says the T/A has a "custom clutch". What codes do I look for on the door of the TA to see if it is a real WS6? Does it just have a WS6 code?

if you get the VIN off the T/A you can find out if its a WS-6 or not by making a simple phone call.

First "carfax" them, and go from there.Seeing if you can track down a previous owner and ask them why they sold it etc... doesn't hurt either. $.02

I just looked at the camaro and really liked it. The car does have an exhaust and sounds nice. He said he could take $7000 for it. Right now I am calling insurance companies. If they say they can insure it then I will probably pick it up tomorrow.

If you have that much cash i would look for a nice low mile car and put some cash down on it thats what i did with my 02 ws6 i bought it for $12000 after i put $4000 down. Got a nice low payment to.

Oh yea and be carful with those sales men i walked away from 3 nice cars cause the sales guy tryed to lie about mods and hp i called one guy out that told me this t/a had a 375hp corvette engine in it and the magnaflow muffler yes only muffler still had stock tips added 25hp i just said your lieing or dont know what the hell your talkin about and left.

I can't finance a car and afford insurance. I only make $400 a month.

Here is another I found, they want $10,500. I have looked at it several times and I thought they sold it but it was there today. I talked to the manager and he said he will take $9,000 cash plus my Camaro and call it a deal. I looked under the hood today and it has long tube headers and an SLP lid. When I started it a week ago it also sounded like it had a cam and a few other mods. I don't know why but I want this car sooooo bad.

The SS already has the mods done that I want done, I figure it will save me alot of hassle plus it is what I want. I don't have to go through the trouble of converting the Z to an SS which is what I would do if I got it. The tires are good on the SS while the ones on the Z were nearly gone. I also like the color of the SS better, it's not as flashy and I don't really like red all that much. I wont have to skip school and work to get new tires put on or spend my whole weekend installing long tubes either, not to mention having it sit in the body shop for two weeks to have an SS hood and spoiler painted.

When my mom and I go up there tomorrow we will see what kind of a deal we can work out. The manager is holding the SS for me.

I called several insurance companies today. State farm was the only one that said yes and it would be $170 a month. With all the other companies I had to keep my V6 and have it insured also.
