Surprised on my mpg
I've been driving my friends 98 C5 to work that I redid the motor in and am really surprised how well the mpg can get if you baby it....for having a cam and stuff in it anyway.
50 miles one way is around 1/8 of a tank on the gauge (roughly, probably less than 1/8)...about 40 miles is highway, ranging from 20mpg to 27mpg...average of 23mpg on flat roads....the whole time on the highway I've been keeping it above 20mpg including going up hills to use as a reference point.
I'm sure having 4500 miles on the motor helps but am I the only one getting nice numbers?
I don't want to hear no **** on how it's a vette it's not supposed to get good mpg blah blah blah

Its a vette its suppose to get good mpg's but in all seriousness thats just a LS1 for you. On my trip home with my old Camaro (6 speed) I got 30 MPG, and my a4 camaro now with gears still gets almost 25.

When you have an aftermarket cam, stop and go traffic is what kills your MPG. You can still get respectable MPG on the highway.

Experienced people with the LsX know how surprisingly good MPG can be in these cars. A buddy of mine with a Civic still owes me 50 bucks because he didn't believe my Z06 would get over 30mpg on the highway.
32mpg at 65 (or so) mph. Now he doesn't believe the computer that gives me the information, lol.

Hard to tell cuz its been off the road for like a year...Last time I really checked was from TN to NJ But at the time it had a 4cyl T5 trans in it which has a HORRIBLE 5th gear in it, it was like half of what the normal overdrive reduction should be, seemed like anyway.....So doing like 70mph I was around 2700rpm so it was screaming, I didnt go anymore than 70mph the whole time. but still got like 23mpg with good driving, if I had a normal 5th gear I know I would have done much better...
My stang has full heads/cam/intake/gears/etc...and pretty soon even a better setup and with a single turbo...cant wait

Don't feel bad. there is no such thing as "good" gas milage once you throw a big cam in an LS1. It's only considered good gas milage for the power when you look at equally modded sbc's or sbf's. My fast92/ported LS6 heads/and MS4 combo through a 6 speed and 3.73 gears would only get 17.5mpg on the highway doing 70mph. A/F ratio was dialed in via EFI Live and was always between 14.5 - 15.1:1.

Don't feel so bad. I get the same and I have no idea why. Plugs are good (new), wires are new, injectors are new, good oil, clean air filter, clean fuel filter, O2s seem fine, redid my injector gaskets, engine _seems_ powerful. All this on a stock engine and I have no idea why I get the mileage I get. I think I've about given up caring.
