Drove from Phoenix to LA in my 02 huge cam/stalled Camaro SS...

I gotta say, I was not super thrilled about driving out to LA for Christmas.
I refused to go through airport security, because people aren't taking pictures of me naked or grabbing my junk unless they're paying me.
I tried to rent a car but my credit apparently sucks, so that was out too.
So I filled up the Camaro, had the oil changed and got on my way.
Honestly, I was expecting to break down. I was expecting the transmission to go out, or a tie rod to break, or a control arm to fall out or all 4 tires going flat at once... I was expecting the worst.
I made it about 100 miles out of town when a semi decided to run me off the road. I was in the right hand lane, with the cruise control set at 75 (speed limit) and this idiot decides to change lanes, into my lane.
For what it's worth - my car is red. And kind of loud. I don't know HOW he couldn't have seen me because he actually came up behind me doing probably 85 and moved into my lane.
LUCKILY there was a shoulder (some parts of the 10 between AZ and CA don't have a shoulder) and I was able to swerve onto it and stay between his semi and the guard rail. I had MAYBE 6" on either side and I was coming up to a spot where the shoulder stopped.
I floored it, hit about 120mph and got around him in time to get back on the road without hitting anything.
Scariest moment of my life.
I got back next to the guy, and he just kind of put his hands up like "oh well." Idiot.
So the rest of the trip to LA went fairly smooth until I got into LA itself. I don't know HOW people drive on those roads. Even with minimal traffic it was still retarded, and I was driving like a jackass trying to avoid pot holes... on the freeway. I can understand surface streets but the freeways are HORRIBLE.
Still expecting to break down.
I pulled into my parents house without any major break downs, and figured I was getting about 22mpg, with an AZPS03 cam and a 3800 stall.
The drive back just confirmed it. Cruised around 2300rpm in 4th at 75mph and got the same gas mileage. I only had to put gas in the car four times round trip, and probably could have gotten away with only 2 fill ups but I wasn't going to risk running out of gas in the middle of no where.
Car didn't get hot, didn't even hiccup, was able to stop and start without problem, cruised great with minimal vibrations (mostly because of the horrible roads and my blown stock shocks) and actually wasn't TOO uncomfortable.
I will never do it again though, but it's nice to know I can.
Not really sure what the point of this was.

I had incidents when something went wrong when I was 4 miles away from the house.

One time the car broke down outside the bar in January winter, was just a bad battery. I called AAA and said F*#K it and went back to the bar.

OP: I'm sure the new wheels helped.

I feel you the gf said she was tired of us using her car for trips and that she wanted to take the SS to my parents house for Christmas 200 mile round trip. Trip went smooth had the cruise on 80 got there a little over an hour, cost me about $40. I would drive my car anywhere I just do not like to drive the SS in the rain or the snow and take a chane in something happening I would rather wreck the Honda accord then the SS.

i wouldnt hesitate to drive my camaro on a long distance as well, even though i wouldnt want to. i have a 230 duration cam, with all boltons and a vig 3200 and my car drives great.
i actually made a 1,000 mile trip 2 days after getting my tranny rebuilt. drove fine with no problems.

This is 2010 correct? Roughly 400 miles each way? I would have to drive nearly that far to get my car tuned. Give it the once over make sure nothing was loose or wobbly and head off. Worrywarts!
