241 heads on a 5.3L
I'm looking at doing a h/c/i on my 2000 t/a. When I am finished I'll have my 241 heads left over and was wondering if I can put them on a 5.3l truck engine. I've been doing some research and am getting a few mixed results. I know the increased CC will result in a lower CR = power loss. From what I've read though, if you get the heads milled down you can recover some of that lost CR. So is it worth porting and polishing my 241's and putting them on a 5/3L? Are the gains worth it to mil down the 241s?
Yes I realize that 243 and 6.0L heads are a better choice but I'm trying to get some use out of my 241s

Im wondering the same exact thing. I have some 241 heads that I was thinkin about putting on my 5.3L because i was told they flow a lot better than stock 5.3 heads, but then you have to mill them down .40 thou to bring the compression back up. Or would it just be better to port and polish the 5.3 heads and get those milled to bring the compression up a lot more?

Me personally would leave the 5.3 head on there. dont see the reason on going to the 241 if your going to lose compression. Dont see the point in investing in porting and milliing them when you can do the same with the 5.3 and it would work out alot better in the long run when u decide to do a ls1 or possibly a lq9

Am I going to be stoned if I bring this thread back? So the 241 has lower CR, on a 5.3 it seems like the 241's would be great if you plan on putting some boost to it like I am. Is this a correct thought? Maybe a hand smoothing with a dremel but no other work to speak of done to the 241's.

I put 241's on the 5.3 in my car after the ls1 died last year not thinking about them lowering the compression ratio and with a small cam it made 5 horsepower less than the ls1 on the same dyno

The 241's are probably going to flow a lil bit better but you should be ok if your going to be putting some boost to it may be able to get a lil bit more timing out of it with the lower CR
