So..long story short..left the neighborhood, stepped on it when I got on the main road, get to about 70, here a suction-y noise, all of a sudden it's bright and windy. I look in the rearview and there's this massive black glass explosion behind me. The t-top flew into oncoming, but luckily there was no traffic coming (busy road too). I slammed on the brakes in the middle of the road, made an epic handbrake u-turn and retrieved my t-top.
So I forgot to lock just the driver's side and yeah. I will not forget that again. ever. But the good news is..my t-top insert (made by specialized stainless - I think he's a member on here) looks brand new after flying a few hundred feet at 70 mph and surviving a mini explosion.
So my question is..what's my best bet to find a clean/mint driver's side t-top? I'm located in the western suburbs of chicago if that helps, I'm willing to drive a bit. Or should I try eBay? anyone know of any good salvage/junk yards around here?

If I get one without keys, am I just screwed? Is it coming with keys a necessity?

OP you can switch over the locks, it sucks because I see them for cheap all the time when I dont need them and I'm not looking for one. I ended up paying the junkyard 125 for one. A few weeks before my other T-top randomly shattered while I was driving down the freeway. I went back to the same junkyard and got the other top of the same car and had to pay 125 both times.

How simple is switching over the locks? Just take it to any locksmith?

haha looks like im not the only one. This happened to me only I pushed up on it not thinking because i was trying to figure out where the air was coming in at. Somehow it didnt break but got scratched up. I bought one at a junk yard for $80 and switched over everything but the glass, it was really easy to do.

This happened to me a few years ago also, only I was going 120 when it popped open from the middle but did not come off of the car. It scared the crap out of me when it popped open! lol

It's is some scary **** huh! i was doing about 85 mph and puuff there goes the passenger t-top. at least you stopped and picked up the remainig parts like ur loking cylinder that way you dont have to pay a locksmith to key alike ur new one. I wish I had but it's kinda hard when ur on the freeway and you just see it shatter to a million pieces. One thing I was told and I'll pass it on is to every now and then open and close ur lever to extend the locking pins to the fullest position, mine were locked and not once did I ever remove my t-tops. Just an FYI!
