just a general question, i was wondering if my exhaust would be louder with a cutout i have cam headers y pipe. the reason i am asking is because i have slp loudmouth and no cats. would it sound the same coming through a cutout or will it be louder. i know cars are louder with cutouts that have mufflers. i dont want to waste my money on one if it is not going to be louder

Inside the car it will be a lot louder due to where it will exit. It will be a little louder outside the car too. The loudmouth is a loud muffler but it still knocks down the sound some.

I have heard both on the same car and I actually thought the loudmouth was louder. Maybe it was only because it was piped straight out the back and I was standing behind the car where as the cut out is dumped under the car.

Cut out will certainly be louder. The sound has the shortest diatance to travel to exit the cut-out which isn't shaped in any way to muffle the sound and doesn't pass through any mufflers. The longer the sound has to travel before exiting, generally the quieter it will be....mufflers or not. If cats aren't in the equation, the better the volume coming out the cut-out.

As noted above, they are both very loud. I think the cutout would be a bit louder (depending on your reference point), however I'm not speaking with experience of hearing the two side by side.
I love my e-cutout because I can leave it 30 - 40% open -- it helps relieve the flow restriction of my catback (Flowmaster, blah) and I get the added volume to the exhaust note without a bit of rasp. Perfect compromise (in my mind).

I think this is a trick question. A loudmouth muffler usually is mounted right after the y merge. And cutouts are usually mounted under the passengers rear seat. So that would mean that the cutout is located after the muffler? Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of the cutout?

Everyone hears things differently. To really tell the difference you have to hear both in the same area. Either one will sound much louder down town in a city than out on an open road. They both sound very close.
