what exactly are you looking for? you say ls3-6, ls3's and ls6's are two different generations of motors ls6 gen3, ls3 gen4. ls series engines came out in 1997 in the vette and are still in production. the 4l60e your looking for can be found in 98-02 f cars and 2001-? trucks and vans maybe 1999 and up im not sure. so now that you know this info what are you looking for? Im assuming your a ford guy because of the term you used (AOD). hope this helps

Ls 3-6
What I am looking for is a SL type engine @ trans to drop into a &@ 72 ElCamino. I brought it new. I am an old guy that is not educated in the new tech, sorry for the misquotes but I am trying to learn. Thanks for any education. I really don't know where to start. I won't be turning any serious wrenches

its all good, the cheapest route for you to go would be 5.3 lm7 engine and 4l60e trans out of a 2001-2006 truck. these are the iron block/aluminum head versions in the ls family of engines. try to get the engine, trans, wiring harness, computer and front accesories all together. all this should fall in the range of 1000-2500 depending on mileage and were you get it from. lkq is known for having a crap ton of stuff in stock, give them a call and see. Youll also need a new efi fuel system, a reworked engine harness and the computer tuned to get the car to start. pm me with any specific questions. i completed this conversion on my 72 nova a few months ago.

Ls
Thanks I just happen to be driving a 04 gmc truck. Won't the engine be to tall so that there might be a problem closing the hood. I was thinking a 6.0 rather than a 5.3

im not sure if the truck intake would be too tall for the hood. you would have to do a google search for g-body conversions that people have done. another possibility would be to replace to bulky truck intake with an fbody ls1 version.

2005-2007 Corvettes came with the Ls2 (aluminum 6.0)
The LQ4 and LQ9 are basically iron versions of the Ls2 which came in certain trucks of the same years (I think).
