Not the highest by any means, but we just sold an 02 Tahoe with a hair over 200k miles. We bought it with 3k miles back in 2002, and not once did the motor require any work. The only thing that ever broke was the a/c compressor. Once. I wouldn't be afraid to jump in it right now and drive it across the country. There's actually a high mileage sticky on here. It's the top one in this section. Some guys have already exceeded 300k miles with little to no issues.

What is the highest mileage on a originally LS engine?
Just wondering if anyone has hit 500K on the original engine?
I have a 2001 Silverado 1500HD with a 6.0 and it currently has 435k on the original drivetrain. Original engine and transmission and it’s still running strong. I don’t baby it and I’m not scared to get down on it while pulling a 23 foot boat.
I also have a 2008 GMC Sierra Denali with the 6.2 and 6•L80E, currently I have 225k on the original drivetrain. Both trucks are 100% original. Nothing has been changed. Original rear ends and everything. The Denali has all original rearend, tranny, transfercase, front diff etc.... No major component has been changed in either one of my trucks the only thing I have replaced is the drivers seat on both trucks due to the leather ripping over time. I am also a GM certified Tech and as far a services I have never changed the transmission fluid on either truck and I change the oil every 4 to 5000 miles. I don’t run dex-cool I run universal full strength antifreeze from Carquest that I mix myself. The only issues I have ever encountered on both trucks are the shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear is a little harder then normal but not hard enough to be concerned with. I have also ran a EDGE programmer on both trucks set to the performance mode at all times. I would love feedback because in my experience trucks with bigger engine options such as the 5.3, 6.0, 6.2 and 8.1 hole up a lot better on full sized trucks verses the V6. 4.3 and V8 4.8 because over time there is less strain on the motor and despite marketing and contrary belief the bigger motor has better gas mileage then the small engine working twice as hard.

I have a fleet of cargo vans for one of my businesses and the last van I sold had 480,000. I wanted to keep it to see if it would hit 500K but the 6L80E took a **** and it wasn't worth fixing so I sold it. I regularly get 400K out of my vans and generally the trans goes due to lack of maintenance from my guys. Always a 2500 van w/ 4.8 w/ 4L80 in the old days now 6L80.
To be fair, I use to run Astro vans with the 4.3 4L60 and they also lasted 350 - 400K

Have seen a half dozen 250,000 + miles LS trucks that friends own. One has 300,000 + miles.
My 02 Z28 has right at 250,000 miles, runs great has piston slap on cold start after sitting overnight. Oil pressure just over 40 when hot and fully warmed up.
The GM durability benchmark spec for the original LS1 was 200,000 miles and on tear down all parts to have critical measurements with in spec for a new part. Was first engine to meet that specification IIRC.
Have also been told the critical Main Time Between failure for the engine was 25,000 hours with proper maintenance.
Average speed of 20 mph that's 500,000 miles.
Average speed of 40 mph that's 1,000,000 miles.
Given my 91 RS had a 305 small block Chevy that ran great, like new with 389,500 miles, still had good oil pressure and could still get 30+ mpg, in time I think we will see 1,000,000 mile LS engines.

The 5.3L I pirated from a 2001 suburban that I am running in my wagon had a tick over 400,000 miles when I installed it. I did rebuild the heads...but, I left the bottom untouched. I've been beating on it like it owes money for a couple years...They are incredible...
