Default 98-00 LS1s not as strong as 00-02 LS1s?

I was reading an article about LS family engines by (i dont remember the guy's name), and at one point it said 1998-1999 LS1s arent as strong as 2000-2002 LS1s and cant handle as much power, because the older ones were aluminum and the 00-02s were steel or just built better? < dont quote me on that last part

when i say as much power im not talking about 800hp , the guy was talking like around the 500hp area.....that seems kind of off to me.

any truth to any part of this or is this just BS

No, the only noticeable differences that i'm aware of were the LS6 intakes. I think there were other subtle differences, but definitely no difference in terms of one holding power better than the other

Not because it's bigger, but just a better design in general

Well the block would be fine, but the stock internals wouldn't last long at that power most likely

Totally BS! My 130k mile 98 LS1 with only bolt-ons went 11.0 - 11.1 @ 120 mph. Not to mention the 1.45 60ft's and wheelies. I had a 2 buddys with an 01 and 02 car with the same mods and pulled away from them.

what bolt on's got you to 11's ??

don't say H/C

and to OP the 98-00's are same **** as a 01-02 IMO, there are subtle diffrences but its the same car in the end once you start modding....

Lots of info on this topic via a search.

Also, here is a link to the FAQ that covers much of the subtle differences between model years:
